Meredith is a young underachiever, living in a squalid apartment, struggling to stay one step ahead of her landlord and the law when she meets a man from her past who offers her a way out and a chance to start over. Having worked her way into the lives of the rich and privileged, Meredith will do just about anything to preserve her new lifestyle. But just how far is she prepared to go?

Life in contemporary post-referendum Barcelona
This novel surprised me. It's a murder mystery set in contemporary post-referendum Barcelona that has made its independence politics integral to the plot without being a political novel. The story is interesting, and the book kept me engaged all the way through. Alas, the narrator is awful. She read the novel in a slew of different accents while showing no talent in any of them. It makes listening to the audiobook confusing and unpleasant. I prefer a narrator who is either good with the accents of the characters, or who uses her natural speaking voice.

Good story and narrator
Liked the inner voice of the main character throughout, giving a great feel for who she was.
