Publisher's Summary
“A gripping journey.” (People)
The highly anticipated memoir from hip-hop icon Rick Ross chronicles his coming of age amid Miami’s crack epidemic, his star-studded controversies and his unstoppable rise to fame.
Rick Ross is an indomitable presence in the music industry, but few people know his full story. Now, for the first time, Ross offers a vivid, dramatic, and unexpectedly candid account of his early childhood, his tumultuous adolescence and his dramatic ascendancy in the world of hip-hop.
Born William Leonard Roberts II, Ross grew up “across the bridge,” in a Miami at odds with the glitzy beaches, nightclubs, and yachts of South Beach. In the aftermath of the 1980 race riots and the Mariel boatlift, Ross came of age at the height of the city’s crack epidemic, when home invasions and execution-style killings were commonplace. Still, in the midst of the chaos and danger that surrounded him, Ross flourished, first as a standout high school football player and then as a dope boy in Carol City’s notorious Matchbox housing projects. All the while he honed his musical talent, overcoming setback after setback until a song called “Hustlin’” changed his life forever.
From the making of “Hustlin’” to his first major label deal with Def Jam, to the controversy surrounding his past as a correctional officer and the numerous health scares, arrests, and feuds he had to transcend along the way, Hurricanes is a revealing portrait of one of the biggest stars in the rap game, and an intimate look at the birth of an artist.

Story
Fat Joe is a hip-hop legend, but this is not a tale of celebrity; it is the story of Joseph Cartagena, a kid who came of age in the South Bronx during its darkest years of drugs, violence, and abandonment, and how he navigated that traumatizing landscape until he found—through art, friendship, luck, and will—a rocky path to a different life. This memoir, written in Joe’s own intensely compelling voice, moves with the momentum of pulp fiction, but underneath the tragicomedy and riveting tales of the streets and the industry is a thought-provoking story about a generation of survivors.

With over 70 million records sold, Black Sabbath, dubbed by Rolling Stone “the Beatles of heavy metal,” helped create the genre itself, with their distinctive heavy riffs, tuned down guitars, and apocalyptic lyrics. Bassist and primary lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band’s renown, from suggesting the band name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose the lyrics and build the foundation of heavy metal as we know it. In Into the Void, Butler tells his side of the story.

Creates Great Context For Revisiting Ross’ Discography
The stories told here are well detailed and captivating. Guy Lockard does a great job narrating Hurricanes and really expresses the essence of the story Ross is telling here.
Ross gets the opportunity to tell his coming of age story and gives all the details of what it took for him to escalate in the world of Hip Hop. Behind the scenes context is given for all of his projects throughout his 10+ year long run as an artist which is a great pleasure to any Rick Ross listener. For example, I never knew Rich Forever was initially supposed to be an album. Finding out it was released for free to have leverage over Ross’ record label at the time was very eye opening. I loved that tape.
As a fan of Ross since 2008, it was a pleasure to go back and listen to my favourite albums of his after listening to this book. A much greater understanding is given to the audience, which makes listening to his music that much more enjoyable. I ‘Most definitely’ recommend Hurricanes to any fan of Ross’ music. I gave 4 stars overall because I felt more time could have been spent on the conclusion. Otherwise, I have no complaints.

An engaging and easy read.
Pour yourself a glass of Luc Belaire and listen to Rick Ross' memoirs, a story that is peppered with humor and moments of reflection. Doesn't go very deep, but is an enjoyable book that is wonderfully narrated.

Everyday I'm Hustling.
Rick Ross Story or Will Roberts Story cuts deep. It almost seems completely fictional? Not sure if I take everything written (said) for truth in this audio/book. Definitely cool to hear about his March up the hip hop ladder. Definitely earned his way into the Rap Game. Inspirational. The only negative is that some of the stories seem exaggerated. Otherwise, Very Interesting. The Biggest Boss has been doing it for quite some time. Amen.

Where was Ricky Rosé?
This was... ok. Nothing special. Ross spent most of the memoir bragging. No deep insights, here. What was most noticeable about this release was that Ross, a rapper with a million-dollar voice, didn’t narrate his own memoirs. I don’t understand that. I get the impression that Ross did a few interviews with a ghost writer and then passed this off to a publicity team to execute. That said, it served as an entertaining listen while I did chores and it was paced well.

never touched me..
I'm not a huge fan of Rick Ross, maybe I have a bias because I sided with 50 Cent during their "beef" or because I was influenced by the whole parole officer fiasco...something seems inauthentic, but I respect what he has accomplished & this book is actually making me visit/revisit more of his music & accomplishments.
I like how he described certain rhymes from his songs & where they came from in his life. Needless to say, the book was interesting. I enjoyed him sharing his work ethic, business mindset & strategies when selling, marketing or putting out new content.
I wish he got deeper into it, specifically the whole Freeway Rick Ross situation. maybe he couldn't from a legal standpoint point? 🤷🏽♂️
other business ventures like Belaire & his chicken wings / thighs restaurants...they had a brief mention. maybe it's too soon to share specifics beyond the current details. Then again it's a memoir not a business book.
I also wish HE was the narrator. come on Rozay...people buy your music because of the Lyrics & that voice...🤦🏽♂️
