An oldie but a goodie

Amazing book for any reader, male or female, who is trying to understand their depression or any of their emotional struggles in life and relationships. One of the best books I have read over the years which has helped me understand the inter-generational scars that have been passed to us from our parents and their parents, and how to break the painful cycle and not passing the scars to our children.

I will listen to it again soon. #Audible1

Every man should hear it at least once.

I don’t believe I suffer from depression. The concept of inherited trauma will make me a more vigilant father though.

Healing… Empowering… Transformative

“I Don’t Want to Talk About It” by Terrence Real is an essential and deeply insightful resource for men facing overt or covert depression, and for their loved ones seeking to better understand and support them. Real skillfully delves into how depression in men often manifests in unexpected ways—through anger, a superiority complex, or even addictions, as coping mechanisms for unresolved trauma. Drawing from his personal journey of overcoming depression induced by family trauma, along with stories from patients and families he’s supported in therapy, Real sheds light on the emotional pain that’s often buried under society’s expectations of masculinity.

One of the most profound messages in this book is the importance of reaching out for help and doing the inner work necessary to heal—not just for the individual, but for the generations before and after them. Real emphasizes that healing is not only possible but crucial for breaking the cycle of trauma. This book offers hope, empathy, and practical guidance for men, their partners, and families to better understand depression and move toward real transformation. Highly recommend to anyone committed to healing themselves and supporting others on this journey.

My entrance into healing the masculine

This book has blown some doors open for me. Despite being a decade into my own journey of healing and awakening, I had not yet dared gaze upon the wreckage and absence of the emotionally healthy male presence anywhere in my life. This book has raised more questions than it has answered, but that is because of where I am at in my own process. I am sure that relistening in a year or two will provide a whole new experience. Would recommend

A must for Men

A book of honest reflection that will help men learn we can heal from our pasts. Being stoic has its place, but knowing and healing our pasts makes us better men for those we love and teach, our children.
