About this listen
A fresh, hilarious, and relatable collection of essays about everything from motherhood and marriage to sobriety and work-life balance (or imbalance) from the nationally bestselling author of the “honest, complicated” (SheKnows) Idiot.
TRIGGER WARNING: TORN EVERYTHING!
In her first book, Idiot, bestselling author Laura Clery gave us mind-blowingly personal life stories about addiction, toxic relationships, and recovery—establishing herself as the preeminent voice of infinite conviction meets zero impulse control. Here she is two kids later asking, “How did we get here?” Sex. Sex is how we got here.
Laura’s life has changed a great deal since she wrote Idiot, but her hilarious candor has only increased with motherhood—plus she tells some of the stories she was too scared to tell in her first book (which is really saying something). “Full of wit” (Publishers Weekly) and charm, Laura shares more than anyone wanted about:
-Placenta pills, mom brain, and vibrator manifestation
-Nipple-twisting orgies and flinging a butt burrito in your doctor’s face
-ADHD, autism, postpartum depression, and the wisdom of a ninety-eight-year-old sage named Anne
-Unsolicited dick, sexual assault, and sister-drugging
-Cheating, fights, and forgiveness
-Choosing love over fear and healing the world
Laura does not hold back when it comes to sharing stories of screw-ups, triumphs, and learning from her mistakes. Whether she’s crying into a diaper in a Whole Foods parking lot or desperately soliciting advice from a random elderly stranger (who has most certainly considered a restraining order), Laura is able to laugh at herself even during her worst moments—more importantly, she makes us laugh, cry, and feel less alone in the world.

Just what I needed
I listened to this every day on the bus to drop off and pick up my daughter. Several times strangers stared at me as I tried not to laugh out loud. It was over far too quickly. I love the touches when you get other voices in. I cried when Alfie said Mama.

excellent listen!
Such a great listen. Thank you for sharing your story!
While some seemed quite insane on the things that happened to her and didn't resonate with me personally, it really helped me to better understand the mindset of addiction. To allow me to have more compassion and patience.
We have also discovered our family has some neurodivergent tendencies. Now, rather than being so concerned about how the world sees us... We can just focus on how we see the world and how best to help our own children!

Always amazing Laura Clery read-through.
Truly the best way to experience her books are by audiobook, especially as someone with ADHD. I love how honest she is in both her books, and I loved hearing about what was going on during times I saw her posts on Facebook. Interesting to see behind the editing and videos. Well written, so much intonation. Still love ya’s both, and your sweet family. And I’ll stop accepting the status quo and start manifesting the good shit. Keep it coming Laura, You’re currently one of my favourite authors and I don’t know how ling the hyperfixation will last :P jk it’s been 2-3 years of thinking your awesome. Be well.

Good follow up.
I loved Laura’s first book. Her second wasn’t as great but still
Entertaining. If your a parent, especially to a neuro-diverse child, you’ll connect with Laura.
