About this listen
Life is full of choices. Right now, yours is whether or not to buy the autobiography of a mid-grade, kind of hammy actor.
Am I supposed to know this guy? you think to yourself.
No, and that's exactly the point. The truth is that though you might not have a clue who I am, there are countless working stiffs like me out there, grinding away every day at the wheel of fortune.
If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor is my first book, and I invite you to ride with me through the choppy waters of blue collar Hollywood.
Okay, so buy the damned book already!

Story
One of my dad’s favorite jokes about getting older was: “I went out for coffee when I was twenty-one and when I got back I was fifty-eight!” I get what he meant now. Time flies. My first book, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a "B" Movie Actor, was published back in 2001 and it chronicles the adventures of a “mid-grade, kind of hammy actor" (my words), cutting his teeth on exploitation movies far removed from mainstream Hollywood. This next book, an “Act II” if you will, could be considered my “maturing years” in show business, when I began to say “no” more often and gravitated toward self-generated material. Taking stock in the overall quality of my life, I fled Los Angeles and moved to a remote part of Oregon to renew, regroup and reload. If that sounds tame, the journey from Evil Dead to Spider-Man to Burn Notice was long, with plenty of adventures/mishaps along the way. I never pictured myself hovering above Baghdad in a Blackhawk helicopter, facing a pack of wild dogs in Bulgaria, or playing an aging Elvis Presley with cancer on his penis - how can you predict this stuff? The sheer lunacy of show business is part of the fun for me and I hope you'll come along for the ride.

Audio is a unique medium. It invites listeners to become a part of the process, to interpret what they hear, however they'd like; whereas motion pictures leave no such room for input. With the completion of this book, it dawned on me that, as an actor by trade, I could play the part; and I'm knee-deep in actor pals - why not record the book like a radio play? So that's exactly what happened. I rounded up an excellent troupe of thespians, from both Los Angeles and my home state of Oregon, and we recorded what was to become this epic listen for you to hear!

The Cool Side of My Pillow is a collection of essays. Don’t let that fancy word fool you. I’m not trying to get highbrow or rant myself blue, but there are experiences and observations outside of the entertainment industry that I feel are worth sharing. What’s it about? Mostly, things that matter to me, like putting in the effort, being honest, and not treating the environment like it’s the enemy.

It's Bruce Campbell
if you've looked at this, it's likely because you know who Bruce Campbell is. I've read this several times already, but the treat of having The Chin dictate his life experiences is an utter treat. The behind the scenes commentary on his early projects with the Raimis is every bit as entertaining as him serving up witticisms about his parts in such cinematic classics as Serving Sara.

An easy book to finish.
Bruce Campbell sure is a pleasure to listen to. His stories from his career as an actor are entertaining and interesting. I love how he repeatedly gives credit to all the people behind the scenes who make everything possible.
He comes across as a classy individual unwilling to let the spotlight linger on him for too long and I've really enjoyed this opportunity to learn more about him and the film industry.

Beautiful yet horrifying look into acting.
Mr. Campbell delivers a honest and sincere performance. A must for any filmmaker ( just starting out, or seasoned veteran) or anyone with even the slightest curiosity of what these poor people go through for our entertainment.

A great story from a legend
This was a great look back at the humble beginnings of Mr. Campbell. The growth and journey of not only Bruce but also his family and friends. Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Hercules, Xena and much more. Will be listening to this again and again. Great laughs throughout.

What a book!
This bio was a story ripped straight from slightly above mediocrity. The delivery was on par.
If I had to give this audiobook a rating using a system - let's say the alphabetical one - it'd be a solid B.
All jokes aside I loved the candor of Bruce in discussing his life and being frank about his encounters, modest stardom crossed the with everyman fandom of his own and even his worst moments.
The book often gets slow and tedious like an average person's diary, but that's mostly what he based it on: A real man, trying to do something he was passionate about and still having to jump through hoops like any other person trying to make it.
Fact is, he loves what he does, he understands the hard work he's done and he's not ashamed of having to figure it out.
While this book may not have been a number one on any list, I think anyone wanting a healthy and sincere story surrounding film and tv, this is a great book. And I mean that whether or not you're a Deadite.
