About this listen
From iconic actor and best-selling author Alan Alda, an indispensable guide to communicating better - based on his experience with acting, improv, science, and storytelling.
The beloved actor shares fascinating and powerful lessons from the science of communication and teaches listeners to improve the way they relate to others using improv games, storytelling, and their own innate mind-reading abilities. With his trademark humor and frankness, Alan Alda explains what makes the out-of-the-box techniques he developed after his years as the host of Scientific American Frontiers so effective. This book reveals what it means to be a true communicator and how we can communicate better in every aspect of our lives - with our friends, lovers, and families; with our doctors; in business settings; and beyond.

Fascinating
Allan Alda presents fascinating information about communication and using improv exercises and many theatre techniques to communicate. Great information about "theory of mind". And he is so wonderful to listen to with his boundless curiosity and enthusiasm.

Highly recommended!!
Loved it; while conjuring memories of Hawkeye Pierce, Alan’s rendition of his research and experiences were truly eye opening for me.
My biggest take-away is through the description of the improv exercises; I find it very powerful to imagine someone passing me a ball while they are expressing an idea or complaining... that alone has added an unexpected level of empathy to my daily interactions.
I plan to have “improv” games with my wife and two children so we may improve our family dynamic with better communication and greater empathy.

Followed the author for many years
This book does not disappoint. Working in technology it provides great insight into how to communicate effectively with all audiences while revealing some story about an amazing actor. Cherry on top is the narration by Alan Alda himself, he is an excellent performer #Audible1

intriguing
Many useful tools mixed in with a few too many acting tips. I love Alan Alda's voice, his silky tones kept me listening to the end. I'm fascinated by his fascination with science, it's clear he loves it which has driven his desire to help scientists communicate better.

Meh
This book was the best example of an old person telling a story. At first you are very interested in what they have to say, but then you realize that the story they are telling just keeps going on forever. They have already made their point, but for some reason they just keep going. They will branch off into more stories that stem off of the original one and after time goes by you forget the point of the story. Well written book though.
