About this listen
From New York Times Bestselling author and Queen of Suspense, Lisa Jackson, comes If Only She Knew, a novel that will having you holding your breath as you turn each page. Perfect for readers of The Silent Patient and Then She was Gone!
If She Only Knew, introduces the Cahills, a wealthy San Francisco family - rich in money, twisted secrets, and hidden agendas. Now at the center of their tangled world is Marla Cahill - a woman with no memory of who she is, what she’s done, or why she could be the next to die . . .
It begins on a dark stretch of highway in northern California. Caught in a blinding glare of headlights, two vehicles swerve and crash - leaving one woman dead, and another in a coma. When the surviving woman awakens, her memory is gone and her face has been reconstructed. Her family tells her that her name is Marla Cahill - but they’re all strangers to her.
Recuperating in her isolated San Francisco mansion, Marla waits for something to trigger recognition. Yet the only thing she’s left with is the unshakable feeling that she is not who everyone says she is, and that something is very, very wrong. Marla knows her life isn’t just different - it’s in danger. And as her fear builds, a killer waits for the perfect moment to strike - the moment Marla remembers . . .

Story
In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought.

Story
Over twenty years ago, the heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors - and the items stolen from her family were never recovered. Until now. On the Upper West Side, a recluse is found murdered in his penthouse apartment, alongside two objects of note: a stolen Vermeer painting and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. For the first time in years, the authorities have a lead - with the suitcase and painting both pointing them toward one man.

Intriguing
The storyline is great. I did have a hard time with the characters switching back and forth in their feelings though. I suppose people are that duplicitous, but it felt more like the characters were reacting against each other for drama, or worse like a formula was being used for dramatic effect. And there was WAY too much 'Harlequin romance' for my taste. I was not too fond of any of the characters, so there was a lot of eye-rolling and hollering at them. The unintended entertainment aspect was enjoyable and the story's bones were delicious but I wouldn't order seconds.

Kept waiting for the suspense
it was like a romance trying to be suspenseful. Long and drawn out, took forever to get to the point of it all. Waste of time and waste of a credit.

It was good.
Too repetitive and too much sexual content that wasn’t needed, just takes away from the story. Overall it was a good story.

so cheesy it gave me heartburn
This book was based upon an overused and outdated idea of amnesia, which was assumed would occur when the main characterwas in an accident. I had to skip over the sex scenes because they were so terribly written and drawn out that it felt too awkward to listen. The degree of sexism in the book was appalling, making for an uncomfortable listen and the feeling that I couldn't wait for it to end. in fact, to make it through I had to speed up the audio to get through it quicker. it was terribly predictable as well and I am disappointed that I will never get back the hours wasted listening to this trash.
