À propos de cet audio

Despite being branded as an outcast amongst outcasts, Phelan Oliver devotes his life to helping his fellow Necromancers. But even with his vast knowledge, nothing prepares him for the day he comes face to face with a demon he didn’t summon—one who embodies everything he has been taught to hate, whose wickedness sparks sinful feelings Phelan can’t ignore no matter how much he tries.

Taken captive by a prince of Hell, Phelan strikes a desperate bargain. In exchange for his soul’s freedom, he’ll give his captor what he wants, even if it means betraying his own family. But demons aren’t the only ones with secrets and Phelan’s might end up costing them both more than they’d ever imagined.

IGNI FERROQUE is a dark MM paranormal romance about a pious Necromancer and an incorrigible demon and what happens when their paths intersect. There’s scorching steam and brutal violence in this enemies-to-lovers tale, wrapped up with plenty of intrigue and betrayal. It is intended for a mature audience and listener discretion is advised. A full list of triggers can be found in the front matter of the book and at my website under Tropes & Triggers. This book can be listened to as a standalone, but it is highly suggested to listen to the series in order, as the history of Winslow and its witches builds on itself with each book.

DNF...absolute NOPE!

Today I finished listening to book 1 in this series, but seeing as earlier this week I read 2 books in a series where book 1 was a 4 star and book 2 felt like the author took a mental vacation so it was a DNF 1 star, I held back my expectations of this book. Even though the ratings for this book were equally as good in audible as book 1, and the ratings in goodreads was higher than book 1, I found this book to be a disappointment.

I requested my credit back as I couldn't get past chapter 11. Not only did I start skipping almost immediately, I could not figure out what the heck was happening. I may have dozed somewhere in the first book because I couldn't for the life of me recollect who Phalen was and why he was so important that it warranted him being the MC in book two.

The two books don't flow. Where was all this summoning of demons just to kill them in book 1? None of these witches did that. If a demon was summoned and or came across and was running a muck, they captured them and disposed of them, but in this book, they purposely brought them over to turn them to ash. Makes no sense. Then we have a grandmother who is giving the grand-daughter a doll with a demon and a demon that apparently can get past all the warded areas the witches have???? it felt like the author was just making things up on the fly.

While book 1 had romance, mystery and consensual sexy times, this book had torture and r*pe. Look, I get it, the second MC is a demon, they are supposed to be mean and heartless, but he's also supposed to be the second half of this coupling, and no matter how you spin it, when one MC chains up the other and roughly r*pes them and thinks that their body's reaction to stimulation is them enjoying it, something has gone wrong. It's one thing for the author to have Phalen secretly want to be manhandled and roughly treated in bed, though he won't say it aloud-seeing as he is supposed to be religiously celibate-or for it to be his kink...to each his own. It's another for him to constantly say no, for him to constantly try to contact home in hopes they find him a way out, for him to say "...force me to do something I do not want" and in his own thoughts think it's not something he wants and it just continues. There is nothing romantic about it and all it's doing is romanticizing abusive relationships.

Even after listening to 11 chapters, I'm going to guess that Phalen's dad is a powerful demon and somehow his demon side was magically blocked after his mother tried to burn him in a fire and this is why he thinks he has no magic and the demon thinks he's powerful and just hiding it. Even if that's not the jist of it, seeing as this book is even longer than book 1 and so far seems to be nothing but nonconsensual smut, I have no desire to listen any further.
