If you would have told a young John Stamos flipping burgers at his dad’s fast-food joint that one day he’d be a household name and that, at the height of his success, he’d be living alone, divorced, with no kids, high on a cocktail of forgetting, he might’ve asked, “You want fries with that?”

The music of Frank Sinatra, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and many other artists provides the score to the reflections of a musician on the road in this memoir of Neil Peart's travels from Los Angeles to Big Bend National Park. The emotional associations and stories behind each album Peart plays guide his recollections of his childhood on Lake Ontario, the first bands that he performed with, and his travels with the band Rush. The evocative and resonant writing vividly captures the meanderings of a musical mind.

Story
For 30 years, drummer, author, and songwriter Neil Peart had wanted to write a book about "the biggest journey of all in my restless existence: the life of a touring musician." Finally, the right time, and the right tour. In the summer of 2004, after three decades, 20 gold albums, and thousands of performances, the band Rush embarked on a 30th Anniversary World Tour. The "R30" tour traveled to nine countries, where the band performed 57 shows for more than half a million fans. Uniquely, Peart chose to do his between-show traveling by motorcycle, riding 21,000 miles of back roads.

Publisher's Summary
In this New York Times best seller, legendary actor and star of the acclaimed documentary Val shares the stories behind his most beloved roles, reminisces about his star-studded career and love life, and reveals the truth behind his recent health struggles in a remarkably candid autobiography.
Val Kilmer has played many iconic roles over his nearly four-decade film career. A table-dancing Cold War agent in Top Secret! A troublemaking science prodigy in Real Genius. A brash fighter pilot in Top Gun. A swashbuckling knight in Willow. A lovelorn bank robber in Heat. A charming master of disguise in The Saint. A wise-cracking detective in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Of course, Batman, Jim Morrison and the sharp-shooting Doc Holliday.
But who is the real Val Kilmer? With I’m Your Huckleberry - published ahead of next summer’s highly anticipated sequel Top Gun: Maverick, in which Kilmer returns to the big screen as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky - the enigmatic actor at last steps out of character and reveals his true self.
In this uniquely assembled memoir - featuring vivid prose, snippets of poetry and rarely-seen photos - Kilmer reflects on his acclaimed career, including becoming the youngest actor ever admitted to the Juilliard School’s famed drama department, determinedly campaigning to win the lead part in The Doors, and realizing a years-long dream of performing a one-man show as his hero Mark Twain. He shares candid stories of working with screen legends Marlon Brando, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr. and Robert De Niro, and recounts high-profile romances with Cher, Cindy Crawford, Daryl Hannah, and former wife Joanne Whalley. He chronicles his spiritual journey and lifelong belief in Christian Science, and describes travels to far-flung locales such as a scarcely inhabited island in the Indian Ocean where he suffered from delirium and was cared for by the resident tribe. And he reveals details of his recent throat cancer diagnosis and recovery - about which he has disclosed little until now.
While containing plenty of tantalizing celebrity anecdotes, I’m Your Huckleberry - taken from the famous line Kilmer delivers as Holliday in Tombstone - is ultimately a singularly written and deeply moving reflection on mortality and the mysteries of life.

Perfection!
I kept seeing the book advertised in the most random of places or heard the phrase being said by people I know. I was given Audible as a Christmas present and this is exactly what I needed at this moment in my life. Thank you!

Val, I've gotta crush on you!...
...you too are a beauty in the universe! Eccentric, authentic. Val's story and his heart are pure poetry!
An expressive, articulate, and eloquent writer - here's one example (but too many beautiful expressions to pick from!): "A continent that, more than any other, put me in touch with elemental forces that deepened my sense of the divine... Africa spoke to me in a voice as ancient as it was new, nature assumed a grandeur I had not before experienced." His words are ART (but not artifact, more like magic) in storytelling, precisely chosen imagery, precisely chosen feeling. You can feel, taste, touch his every word. Such colourful expressions, the words jump off the page (or bounce off the ear); I feel like every sentence of every chapter was like this, and my ears couldn't get enough of his intentional weaving of words, to share his wisdoms, to share his notions, to share his emotions. I laughed, I teared-up, I "aha'd" through every glorious chapter. His life built of family, friendships, romantic loves, work, happy times, sad times, spiritual searching, and self-searching - I've come to learn what an incredible human being Val is. His positivity and love for this life will keep him with us for many more years to come... and hopefully more books, poetry, art... more of his beautiful soul. See, I've gotta crush on Val!
PS, I would have preferred Val's personal narration (but the twist of life took that), however the three narrators did a wonderful job and honoured Val's intentions.

Touching memories
Val seems to be at peace with the universe and speaks fondly of the people who came into his life. An extremely gifted actor with a deeply spiritual light. I loved it, especially at this time in humanity where solitude is the norm.

History plus reflection equal an engaging memoir
I enjoyed listening to Val Kilmer's "I'm Your Huckleberry." The author tells an engaging and interesting story of his life. What I found most interesting was his reflections on the decisions he made and the meaning they hold regarding who he is as a person. His philosophical reflection on life translates well to the listener's own experiences and life.
I was wondering how I would like to listen to three narrators. Similar to the recent Jim Morrison collection of writings audiobook, it works well, especially after you become accustomed to the different styles.
Did I want the story to end? No. Will you? My guess is you will want it to continue, too, just like Val's fascinating and instructive life.

Absolutely one of my favourite biographies!!!
I was so excited to read/listen to this audible. I was disappointed that Val Kilmer did not narrate himself as I love his voice. But quickly understood why not. His 3 narrators did a fantastic job. I did not know how poetic Val Kilmer is. His words simply flow and I could not stop listening to his story. It is also interesting to learn how spiritual he is. He has lead an interesting life and thank you Val so being so frank and honest about yourself. I seriously hope to see you future movies. I truly wish you well in your healing. This is a gem of a biography and I sincerely recommend others to read or listen to it. Thank you Val Kilmer.

Not bad.
Just a little more behind the scenes stories could have been a bit better.
Val is an awesome actor and I did enjoy the book. It just needed a little something extra.

Has potential but I believe the hard copy version would be better
In my opinion this could be an amazing book the only problem is the narration. Having three narrators makes it extremely difficult to follow as you have to remember that they are all reading for the author not other subjects in the storyline. I found it overly distracting and could not finish the book because of it.
