About this listen

Romance is in the air!

Elaine is still far from home, far from Remus. Her friends and family don't even know if she's alive.

However, not all is lost. Elaine has fallen in with some elves, who are willing to let her tag along while they head in the general direction of her home. They're off hunting shimagu, deadly bodyjackers that steal away all autonomy.

Elaine finds a small measure of comfort in Serondes's arms, experimenting with her first relationship. Experimenting with granting others Immortality.

As Elaine travels with the elves, she needs to wrestle with numerous questions: Is the relationship with Serondes going anywhere? What's in the egg that she's keeping safe and warm? Can the elves be trusted? What happened with the civil war in Remus? And should the shimagu be treated like people, or like parasites?

Bad Editing and pacing

This book should have been combined with the previous one, basically this book should have started with her escaping the lair and finding the elves and ended when she got back to Remus.

I really tried to enjoy this book but it was a struggle. The decisive Elaine from earlier books is gone, and is instead very wishy-washy and almost angsty. This hurt the story because it felt like Elaine as a character regressed in this book.

The Ionna interludes also do not belong in the audiobook. They quite honestly are not what I am buying this audiobook for and do not bring anything to the story, except make the book seem longer than it actually is. They are ok on Patreon or RoyalRoad but not here.

another great book with a few minor problems

The Great

Elaine Is a fun and interesting protagonist with alot of room to grow, and the talk about boundaries especially when it comes to sex and consent was a very welcome surprise due to the lack of discussion about these topics in this genre.

The Minor Problem's

the pacing wasn't great, this book could have been part of the last book and it would have been fine. The Iona chapter's although VERY important for later books could have been spaced out more instead of in a big chunk at the end.

in conclusion. is this the author's best work? no not at all, but the fact that I'm still giving it five stars is a testament to how amazing this author's writing is.

Filler book

I fee like this book just rambles on about the restrictions and hypotheticals around the restrictions of Oath, it's book 6 you don't need to keep on going over the restrictions... over and over. It's almost as bad as the crap relationship building with the long lectures on consent.
