Private investigator Stuart Bloom was missing, presumed dead. Until now.
His body is discovered in an abandoned car - in an area that had already been searched....
Detective Inspector Siobhan Clarke combs through the mistakes of the original investigation. After a decade without answers, it's time for the truth.
But it seems everyone involved with the case is hiding something.
None more so than Siobhan's own mentor: former detective John Rebus. The only man who knows where the trail may lead - and that it could be the end of him.
Everyone has secrets. Nobody is innocent. In a house of lies.

Classic Rebus
Ian Rankin maintains his storytelling style of intrigue, sarcasm, and insight. Rebus and company cointinue their character growth with a few new players thrown in.
the narration was solid although I occasionally struggled to differentiate some of the new characters.
Overall, a quick and enjoyable listen.

A confusing narration of a complicated story.
I am a fan of Ian Rankin. However, not all his writing is suitable for an Audible read. Audio books work best when there is a linear story line without a plethora of characters. The narrator does not have sufficient range to do all the voice changes required in this novel. As a result, it is often difficult to determine who is speaking. Getting through this book was difficult for the reasons mentioned.

Amazing narrator, great series, lukewarm episode
These audiobooks are very enjoyable as they have good characters, funny dialogue and go at a good pace where the listener can pick up again after a few days. The storyline for this one was not particularly gripping but I will listen to more in the series .. partly due to the amazing narrator who is a gifted actor for sure!

Disappointing
IDK if it was the plethora of characters or just the rapidfire diction of the audio. My brain just kept shutting down and putting me to sleep. A chore to make it through this one. Sorry maybe its these Covid times.

a bit plodding
I usually love these Rankin stories, but this one was a bit dull. No real tension, few surprises, and a fairly predictable resolution.
