As always there is Cecelia’s magic woven into this story, and as an energy healer I related a lot to Alice’s struggles carrying these gifts without support— and even with support. I found the early chapters of Alice’s life extremely painful and difficult to read, I had to take lots of breaks. I struggled personally with the switching back and forth with timelines, and how fast it was narrated at times. Some of the voices were a bit intense for me, but applaud her ability to shapeshift so well into each character. The range is incredible! The ending to me felt rushed. I wished more time could have been spent into her life with Andy.

I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn’t work for me.

I had a hard time following the story from start to finish. The timelines jump around constantly with very little transition, and I was often confused about how the main character went from one age to another. Because of that, my mind kept drifting and the book never fully held my attention.

The concept itself could have been really interesting. The idea of seeing colors around people to represent emotions had a lot of potential, but the execution fell flat. I finished the book a few days ago and honestly couldn’t tell you much about what actually happened. Other than the main character seeing colors, I only remember maybe two specific moments from the entire book.

I didn’t enjoy the narrator’s voice impressions of other characters, especially kids, men, and Indian accents. Instead of pulling me into the story, it often took me right out of it.

The story started to feel okay around the Green section, part 6, and I thought it might finally come together, but it quickly lost me again.

Overall, this book felt disjointed and forgettable, which was disappointing given how emotional and meaningful it was clearly trying to be.

Some books might be better in print and this may be one of them.
