About this listen

The apocalypse is coming, but only a lucky—or perhaps unlucky—few know.

Silas is inducted into the System, becoming the last in a long line of Earth's "forerunners." The rewards are great, but the danger is greater. We are not alone in the universe. The fate of five worlds hangs on how their forerunners perform.

Will Silas have what it takes to win Earth a place in the multiverse? Or will Earth become another mining world stripped of all resources and left a barren husk floating in the cosmos?

A system-enforced secret, a deadly challenge, and only a year to go. The countdown begins now!

LitRPG with a decent plot

This is the only LitRPG book I've ever finished. The story is not bad, with protagonists I grew attached to, and a performance that is very decent.

A definite must read

Very well put together. My only regret is it’s not longer. But really likable characters.

Love the book so far

“At least it wasn’t a evil trowel” isn’t that a He who fights with monsters reference?

captivating

I'm not a gamer but this series is captivating. I don't own and haven't owned a gaming console in over 10 years. I'm not or never have been a strategy type of player yet I vaguely understand all the details that go into this kind of story. it's pretty easy to understand and fallow along. if you like sci-fi this series is worth listening to. very entertaining.

Great book

I thoroughly enjoy the LitRPG. My first experience with the point system in a book. I had a hard time stopping listening to this book and found myself finding ways to keep the playback going. Great writing Sean and great narration Travis.

Captivating

well written story and a very good narrator. the way the players gain points and score is a bit confusing but you can follow the plot nevertheless.

It's a Great story but why

its a great story. me and my wife have been enjoying the listen but for no reason the writer wants to shit on men abunch. i didnt notice this my wife pointed it out and when i relistened to it alot of the time there isnt really a point or reason to do it... its not like shitting on men helps build the story. but i mean other then that the book is good

Most disappointing Travis Baldree performance

Travis! This was a book that I picked up because I feel like I can always be confident with your narration. But this time, wow I was thoroughly disappointed. Your voices for all the characters is spot on as usual, but the pacing of your speech is awful! It sounds like it's sped up compared to what your usual cadence of reading is - particularly the pauses between sentences. You're just going and going and going at such a speed that the words just blend together and I'm finding myself losing attention so much more often than I do with all the other books I've listened to you read! Thoroughly disappointing. My biggest hope is that if I grab book #2 that it's improved to your usual!

Book itself was good. I enjoyed aspects to it, but there were also things I didn't love. The most glaring, which was compounded by the way Travis was reading, was the pacing particularly between points of interest. It's like the writer rushes into a section, gets to where they want to focus on, takes their time and I'm enjoying things at this point, but then once they reach a certain point, skip over all other details, hand wave the transition between moments, and suddenly we're in a different phase of the story. Outside of other minor complaints around content, this is my biggest problem with the writing and hope that the author finds a better balance between the meat & potatoes moments, and transitioning between those moments.
