About this listen

Without so much as a warning, humanity in its entirety was suddenly moved to another dimension. Every person, without exception.

But this new world, with all its opportunities and gifts of wondrous abilities, was a stadium. A deadly arena of an unimaginable scale. And humanity was to be its latest gladiators. Every man, woman, and child was given a weapon and ordered to fight. Stuck in this dimension without a way out, only two options existed for the would-be hunters: Fight with monsters to complete the many trials ahead, or perish.

Faced with hordes of powerful monsters, thrown into battle with complete strangers at random, the unfair game of survival began. And from the very beginning, billions of lives were extinguished in mere moments. But even within this abyss of despair was a small ray of hope: If even one person were to complete every raid, then humanity would be redeemed and restored back to its former glory.

No save points, no revives, no retries. Everyone had just one life to make their way through the gauntlet of raids prepared to test their mettle. Within this marathon of death, one man becomes aware of an exception to the rules of the game.

Starts bad, gets better, ends okay

The biggest problem I have with this book is how often, starting from about the midway point, the main character talks about how teamwork is the solution to saving the world. Constantly. Every single battle. But his point is completely undercut when he just solos almost every fight. There is only ever one area where teamwork in this book that extolls the virtues of teamwork matters, and the MC mostly just tells everyone else what to do so they can streamroll the area.

Aside from that, the whole makeup of the system is just dumb. Do a fight, come back to hub town. Do a fight, come back to hub town. Hub town is a solo instance, though, so nobody can interact with each other outside of the fight arenas. Find some people you like? Too bad, can't interact with them unless you get super-lucky to get them in your party again or you're one of the last humans still standing.

Rewards are determined by contribution. Great! But rewards are only split between survivors. Understandable. PvP is encouraged so only one person survives to reap all the rewards, even if they get a minor penalty. Ugh. Even if you just solo everything like the MC, though, and everyone else lives, you screw over those other peoples' progression, so they're likely to die anyway. Boo.

But the reward for being the last human to die to is to restart with all your memories. Okay. And it's never explored beyond giving a reason for the MC to grow in power so quickly. Ugh again.

Better than expected

I really wasn't expecting much, so I was pleasantly surprised to be hooked after a little while. A chapter or two in, I really didn't think it was the one for me. After a bit, though, it really grew on me. MC grows OP rather quickly, though the rinse and repeat nature of the 'game world' makes the fast track understandable.

Great performance

I continue to enjoy Travis as a reader. He has a good solid voice. coupled with the good story by From Hell, wonderful combination. The story does not go crazy with stat points like others do, and that is a good thing.

Too repetitive- Too short - Too boring.

Feels like 1/2 a book with little progression. Nothing about this story was interesting or slightly captured my interest. The main character doesn’t even have a flaw to make him more interesting. I found the secondary characters more engaging. I don’t know how these issues didn’t get figured out in the editing stage. It’s like the book was pushed out as fast possible just to get something out.
I won’t be getting any following books in this series. It’s just a boring, repetitive story.
The narrator was the only good thing here. .
