About this listen

In New York Times best-selling science fiction epic Out of the Dark, Earth beat back an alien invasion. Now we've got to make sure they don't come back, in Into the Light.

The Shongairi conquered Earth. In mere minutes, half the human race died, and our cities lay in shattered ruins.

But the Shongairi didn't expect the survivors' tenacity. And, crucially, they didn't know that Earth harbored two species of intelligent, tool-using bipeds. One of them was us. The other, long-lived and lethal, was hiding in the mountains of Eastern Europe, the subject of fantasy and legend. When they emerged and made alliance with humankind, the invading aliens didn't stand a chance.

Now Earth is once again ours. Aided by the advanced tech the aliens left behind, we're rebuilding as fast as we can.

Meanwhile, a select few of our blood-drinking immortals are on their way to the Shongairi home world, having commandeered one of the alien starships...the planet-busting kind.

The narrator made the book unbearable. No doubt this is a good story, but the narration was just jarring.

It’s good, a great follow up to the first book. Word to the narrator - Do.not.do.women’s.voices……pretty please!

Wonderful follow up on the first one!,the writing is good and entertaining…however it does bog down in a couple places.
Amazing male voice! Don’t loose it. It’s deep and gravelly, made me think of a military colonel. However! When Ralph tried to portray a woman’s voice…please, really please.no really I’m serious..please do not do woman’s voices. The women in this audio book sound like they’ve swallowed “something”, followed up with draino, followed by a couple razor blades, then started screeching as they spoke….oh yeah I forgot the wire brush that went down there after the razor blades. Seriously, Ralph..don’t get me wrong, your voice is great…but here’s a tip. Do.not.do.women’s.voices.
There…it’s been said.

Great story, terrible narrator.

Into the Light is an excellent continuation of the Out of the Dark series, but the narration leaves a lot to be desired. Every character pretty much sounded the same -like an angry Scot, except for the one Scottish character who sounded more like an angry Irishman.

Disappointing

I found the narration hard to hear as the narration trails off quietly at times. I also admit i was VERY much hoping to hear Charles Keating do this one also.
I was also expecting more story of the non-breathers hitting the alien home planets which there was little of.
I hope the series continues...just wasn’t as thrilled from this work as I was the first.

The best SciFi I've read in years!

I couldn't put this down. The first book was great and this is great as well. I need the next book NOW.

atrocious narrator, bloated, unnecessary scenes and dialogue.

It is unclear why a British narrator was chosen to read a story largely set in the American south. This narrator is unfamiliar with American pronunciation and slang and most of his "voices" sound like emotional Daleks who need their diapers changed. Shrill and tooth grinding! Yikes!
The story is slightly interesting but it seems to be 50% larger than needed. One in five chapters was clearly included to up the word count with no contribution to the story. The amount of useless dialogue is huge. Some of the main characters seem amazingly naive, bordering on suicidal.
David Weber is known to provide too many conversations in his books but this one is over the top. Do you need the cash Dave? I could send you a few bucks.
I understand another book in this series will be available soon but it was all I could do to finish this one. It was a hard grind! Give this one a wide berth.

Narration Awful

I can't even listen to the narrator. He's awful, he sounds like he spits when he talks.
