About this listen
“The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity." Xaden Riorson
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.
Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.
Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.
But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.
The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

Story

But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. Not bad
It was a good book, I enjoyed the escapism it provided. It had a great amount of ups and downs, just felt there was more emotion and relatability in the first compared to the second. The narrator is one of my favourites and does amazing.

I AM GUTTED!
This is why I never start a series that isn’t done! Omg I need more I can’t be left this way. Not me yelling at the characters and being surprised even if I saw it coming! And the performance. The emotions were felt at a cellular level

I loved this book so much! By chance I found this series only about a month ago and read the first book. Then by some Stroke of Luck the second book was coming out only days after I finished listening to the first! I could not believe how good the second one was and cannot wait to read the third and fourth and 5th haha. keep em' coming!

Holy. Hell...
Seriously, just when I thought it couldn't shock me any more... another chapter rocks me to my core. I need the next book. This whole story will now take over my entire personality.

what a twist!
ok I'm talking about the narrator, no spoilers here. at first I didn't love her but MAN...she is actually perfect to narrate this story.
if you're here just for spicy chapters, there are a few but it's not like some of the other books out there. however.,..the plot, the character development, the dragons...are SO good. so good.
