About this listen

In this national best-seller, Robert Bly explores the idea of the missing father in contemporary society. He draws upon a cornucopia of legend and literature - as varied as the poetry of William Blake, Jungian psychology, and Sioux initiation rituals - to encourage men in their pursuit of the “inner warrior.”

This of the greatest books for modern man

Having lived a little, this books makes so much more sense. To read who wont understand his mythological synonyms, please keep reading and repeat. It’s something when you did not like the book 8 years ago, only to come back and say Iron John was right about the plight of modern men. He was right about a desire to feminize men. I grieved over the man I had become, who was not a man, but a man in the likeness of a woman. Please men, read this book and many others. And be men!!!!

One of the most beautiful books on the male journey

Helps you make sense of the things that have happened to you and find parallels in myth. Helps you to realize we’re all on our own Hero’s Journey.

The narrator is incredible as well.

A Drug Free Prescription for Our Modern & Troubled Times

Bly’s perspective on the lack of the elder/mentors to guide today’s boys/girls in an ever increasing fatherless society combined with the continual psychological emasculation of men today is an accurate diagnosis and poignant reflection of the root cause to the multitude of problems we are experiencing in the world today.

Beautifully Narrated - Richard Ferrone is a True Master Story Teller much like Bly himself.

Sound Quality is Excellent

Lots of symbolism

It’s a great book but at times you can get lost in the symbology. I read it over the course of 6 months to make sense of it. Maybe I was just new to this realm of knowledge but I hope to read it again later in my life to see if it lands differently

What in the…?

This book is unlistenable. It’s so ironic the book is about masculinity but the author is clearly incapable of excpressing himself in a masculine manner - with clear, and structure.

The book goes on wild rants, and pulls all sorts of ideas and myths from 100’s of different places, never finishes a single point, or gives any clear explanation to any of the points/arguments/ or myths the author brings in.

Maybe I am just too stupid to understand this book. But it is beyond frustrating that just when you think the author is going to explain himself, he proceeds on another wild rant of random un-connectable ideas, myths and stories.

This whole book can be summed up in one sentance.

For a boy to become a man, a man must go through a series of challenges, set backs, and teachings, and must embrace both his feminine and masculine side. The End. How hard was that. Didnt take me. 15hour book to explain that..
