About this listen
Performed by Trevor Moawad with a foreword written and read by Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson
From a top mental conditioning coach - "the world’s best brain trainer" (Sports Illustrated) - who has transformed the lives and careers of elite athletes, business leaders, and military personnel, battle-tested strategies that will give you tools to manage and overcome negativity and achieve any goal.
He knows how to win. More, he knows the many ways - subtle, brutal, often self-inflicted - we lose.
As the most trusted mental coach in the world of sports, Trevor Moawad has worked with many of the most dominant athletes and the savviest coaches. From Nick Saban and Kirby Smart to Russell Wilson, they all look to Moawad for help finding or keeping or regaining their competitive edge. (As do countless business leaders and members of special forces.)
Now, at last, Moawad shares his unique philosophy with the general public. He lays out lessons he's derived from his greatest career successes as well as personal setbacks, the game-changing wisdom he's earned as the go-to whisperer for elite performers on fields of play and among men and women headed to the battlefield.
Moawad's motivational approach is elegant but refreshingly simple: He replaces hardwired negativity, the kind of defeatist mindset that's nearly everybody's default, with what he calls "neutral thinking". His own special innovation, it's a nonjudgmental, nonreactive way of coolly assessing problems and analyzing crises, a mode of attack that offers luminous clarity and supreme calm in the critical moments before taking decisive action.
Not only can neutral thinking raise your performance level - it can transform your overall life. And it all starts, Moawad says, with letting go. Past failures, past losses - let them go.
"The past isn't predictive. If you can absorb and embrace that belief, everything changes. You'll instantly feel more calm. And the athlete - or employee or parent or spouse-who's more calm is also more aware, and more times than not...will win."

Story
Much of what we hear about who gets to the top, and how, is wrong. Those who become chief executives set their sights on the C-suite at an early age. In fact, over 70 percent of the CEOs didn't have designs on the corner office until later in their careers. You must graduate from an elite college. In fact, only seven percent of CEOs in the dataset are Ivy League graduates - and eight percent didn't graduate from college at all. To become a CEO you need a flawless résumé. The reality: 45 percent of CEO candidates had at least one major career blowup.

Use your head. That’s what we tell ourselves when facing a tricky problem or a difficult project. But a growing body of research indicates that we’ve got it exactly backwards. What we need to do, says acclaimed science writer Annie Murphy Paul, is think outside the brain. A host of “extra-neural” resources—the feelings and movements of our bodies, the physical spaces in which we learn and work, and the minds of those around us— can help us focus more intently, comprehend more deeply, and create more imaginatively.

One of the biggest myths that plagues the business world today is that our ability to network depends on having the “gift-of-gab”. You don’t have to be outgoing to be successful at networking. You don’t have to become a relentless self-promoter. In fact, you don’t have to act like an extrovert at all. Matthew Pollard, an introvert himself, draws on over a decade of research and real-world examples to provide an actionable blueprint for introverted networking.

Practical, entertaining, and extremely motivating.
This book was so captivating, gave really practical advice, and was so interesting. The stories about the amazing athletes Trevor worked with are really cool to hear and it really gives you a lot of insight into why the elite are elite. Highly recommend for athletes but also for anyone looking to better themselves in terms of their mindset.

It takes what it takes personal review
I particularly enjoyed Trevor’s view on remaining neutral instead of being overly positive or negative in any situation. Specifically, being conscious about where external negativity is entering your life such as in music, for example, it was an interesting perspective. I would definitely recommend this book to somebody.
