About this listen
Nanette Johnston Packard, a sexy divorcee, liked to meet men at the gym and through personal ads. Soon after she began dating millionaire Bill McLaughlin, he moved her and her kids into his bayfront home in Newport Beach. But one man was never enough for Nanette....
Eric Naposki, her NFL linebacker lover, fulfilled Nanette's wilder cravings. Together they schemed to make her fiance's fortune their own. When McLaughlin was gunned down, authorities had suspicions - but no proof. Pulitzer-nominated writer Caitlin Rother explores this chilling story of a woman who seemed to have it all - until justice finally had its day.

Serviceable True Crime
This book leads readers/listeners through a murder case with legitimately fascinating perpetrators, victims, and setting (a shady gold-digger and her NFL alumnus f**kbuddy killing her Millionaire sugar daddy in überaffluent Newport Beach).
Investigative Journalist and True Crime author Caitlin Rother provides a meticulously-researched and well-delivered exposé. The courtroom sparring sounds incredibly authentic (strategies, points scored by litigators, judicial oversight, etc.), for example.
Unfortunately, the crime isn't particularly noteworthy (in fact, I question why Rother even chose it for exploration). I lost interest at times merely because of the mundanity of a greed-driven "Black Widow" murder.
Reader Rachel Perry is certainly capable - displaying professional diction, timbre, voice-acting, and tone - but Tantor Audio sound engineers are unable to soften her regular sharp intakes of breath (yielding a recording that sounds like the microphone was placed too close to the narrator). This is a below-average presentation.
I recommend:
Listen to the Sample before purchase;
Set the playback speed to 1.15X to render the breathy cadence less prominent; and
Stick to the speakers in your vehicle/on your device.. avoid earbuds.
Altogether, I rate the audiobook 6/10 stars. If you can get it as a 'Plus' option, it's a reasonable distraction for a genre fan on a long drive or working a couple of lonely night shifts. I will be listening to other books by this author (she's imperfect but more than creditable).. but you should spend your Credit elsewhere if they ask for one for 'I'll Take Care Of You'.
