overall, it was Moby Dick with a cop-out for redemption by the main character. with an affair to boot.

Meh!..

It's not often you hear "the movie is better than the book...". In this case however, it certainly applies.

I overall liked this book a lot. I hope I can watch the movie later on.

Expect a few surprises. Spoiler alert

There is a funny side story about the mafia. Bahahaha. I’m glad they stripped it away for the film.

Still a decent book after all these years

I admit, I first read this book when I was about 9 or 10 years old, after we saw the movie on television. I thought it was a pretty good book as a kid and even as an adult. However, I don't think it's brilliant and it doesn't stand the test of time like authors such as Austen, Dickens, Trollope (for example) do. I thought Erik Steele did an excellent job narrating this book. I was happy this book was free to listen to as part of Audible's Plus Catalogue instead of paying a full credit for this.

Not as good as movie

Usually when it comes down to it, the book is pretty much always better than the movie. But Jaws is an exception. Not saying the book isn't good, it was definetly a good book! But it really doesn't come near the masterpiece that the movie is, which can probably can be chalked up to Speilburgs directorial magic.

The Jaws of Life

The book was very well put together, even all these years later. I will say, I could not help to notice the stark differences between the film adaptation and the book. While the book dives more into the drama of some of the characters, it’s not as fully fleshed out as what it could have been. It’s also takes away some of the suspense that made audiences fear going into the water.
All in all, great book, especially for fans of the film.

Read the book when I was a kid. Brings back memories

Liked the narration. This story does not grow old. I remember not being able to swim (even in a pool) because I remember the way the shark was described in the book.

Really good book.

So without a doubt I love the movie more than this book, definitely a lot of differences but the book is so good and enjoyable. I couldn't believe the difference in the ending.

A watery shadow of the movie

Scenes with the shark keep your attention, but the problem is that the novel is bogged down with horrible subplots of infidelity and mobsters that take away from the forward motion. The characters are also fairly unlikable and it’s amazing that such an amazing movie grew from such a forgettable book.
