Publisher's Summary
Josephine's life story was as turbulent as the age, an era of revolution and social upheaval, of the guillotine and of frenzied hedonism. With telling psychological depth and compelling literary grace, Carolly Erickson brings the complex, charming, ever resilient Josephine to life in this memorable portrait, one that carries the reader from the sensual richness of her childhood in the tropics to her final lonely days at Malmaison.
What the critics say
"An intimate, richly detailed, and candid portrait." (Kirkus Reviews)

Highly recommended!
Very captivating from beginning and sadden by the end of the story. Many a times, I felt as if I was present in the story while it was going on because of all the descriptive scenes.
I loved Josephine’s character. Even though this story was over 200 years ago, Josephine was a great lady filled with determination and pizzazz.

Enjoyed so much
This book brought me into another era. Really enjoyed hearing about these historical times and the incredible life that Josephine B lived. The narrator is exceptional and really enjoyed listening to her.

Memorable
What a woman! Definitely after reading this book my heart goes to the memory of Marie-Josèphe-Rose Tascher de la Pagerie, whom for long had been overshadowed by his former husband, the infamous Napoleon Bonaparte.
