About this listen
“In her long and extraordinary career, Cicely Tyson has not only exceeded as an actor, she has shaped the course of history.” (President Barack Obama, 2016 Presidential Medal of Honor ceremony)
"Just as I Am is my truth. It is me, plain and unvarnished, with the glitter and garland set aside. Here, I am indeed Cicely, the actress who has been blessed to grace the stage and screen for six decades. Yet I am also the church girl who once rarely spoke a word. I am the teenager who sought solace in the verses of the old hymn for which this book is named. I am a daughter and mother, a sister, and a friend. I am an observer of human nature and the dreamer of audacious dreams. I am a woman who has hurt as immeasurably as I have loved, a child of God divinely guided by His hand. And here in my ninth decade, I am a woman who, at long last, has something meaningful to say.” (Cicely Tyson)

She shares stories of her father, a Vietnam vet who was bowed but never broken by life's challenges, and of her mother, who survived violence both in the home and on DC's volatile streets. Remarkable
The weight of Ms Cicely’s life is somehow penned with such ease and flow in here. A near century of life and experience shared respectfully touching on just about all aspects of her life. The beauty of it really should be taken in, in pieces and reflected on as much as you need. I definitely will be picking up a paper copy from a black owned bookstore as well. Robin Miles did a wonderful job - it truly felt as though I were sat in front of Ms Tyson as she recounted these memories. What a timely release. May she Rest In Peace.

Excellent Memoir
Well written book. I enjoyed listening to Cicely tell her story. What a legend. Many people can learn so much from her experiences. She has shown love, determination, strength, perseverance, faith, forgiveness and hope. Her tips on longevity will certainly be my guide. I am turning 75 and hope to make it to her age with her spirit and zest for life. She has given us so much to work with. Love this book but most of all, love this author. Thank you Cicely. RIP

Just Brilliant!
The best memoir I've ever read/heard. As Ms. Tyson says, as "a child of God," this work offers something for us all. Not just a life, but a century of history, heaven sent. Experience it for yourself, savour and enjoy. Rest in paradise, Ms. Cicely Tyson. You are a treasure for all eternity.
