Publisher's Summary

His Target

Aspiring model Sandee Rozzo's big mistake was being kind to Timothy "Tracey" Humphrey. After Rozzo refused the 'roided-up ex-con's advances, she described how he imprisoned, raped, and brutalized her for two days. When the courageous woman pledged to testify against him, Humphrey knew he had to silence her....

His Weapon

That's when he turned to 19-year-old Ashley Laney. She had fallen in love with Humphrey, her personal trainer, and would do anything for him. On their wedding night, he made a strange request - one that would end with eight gunshot wounds and a dead body.

His Scheme

The police knew Humphrey was the likely suspect, but he had an alibi for the time of the shooting. How could they prove that, even if he didn't pull the trigger, he was the manipulative psychopath behind Sandee's murder? It would all come down to a prison escape, a manhunt for a killer, and an explosive trial....

Contains mature themes.

Meticulously Researched Reconstruction

Investigative Journalist and True Crime (Television & Podcast) mainstay M. William Phelps tells the story of Florida 'Roided-up Bouncer/Personal Trainer & Rapist Timothy "Tracey" Humphrey - who convinced his new wife to murder a woman set to testify against him. The progression of the narrative - put together from a punctilious review of interviews with investigators, prosecution allegations, and court transcripts - is well-elucidated and undeniably captivating.
Less fortunately, the writing is never going to win any awards, and the style is unapologetically Screenplay/Cinematic (reflecting so much "Artistic License" that authenticity is questionable). Is this a True Crime exposé, or a semi-fictional "Based-On-A-True-Story" docudrama?

As to presentation: Reader Jonathan Yen turns in a capable - if unspectacular - performance. His voice-acting choices are sometimes questionable.. but his timbre, cadence, and tone are all solidly creditable. In toto, Yen's interpretation is on a par with what any professional audiobook narrator could provide (it's pretty "average").
Tantor Audio engineers don't help the situation, either.. permitting ambient noises like chair creaking and page-turning to remain audible occasionally. The end result is an "adequate" listening experience.

Altogether, 'Kill For Me' is worthy of 6.5 stars out of 10. If you can get it as a Free 'Plus' option, it would be a fine distraction for a cross-country drive or a couple of quiet night shifts. If Audible asks for a Credit, however, keep browsing.

[Note: The account of a Sting Operation using a terrified cooperative witness/Confidential Informant is legitimately harrowing]
