About this listen
A stunning fantasy inspired by familiar fairy-tales, complete with cursed princesses, thieves-turned-soldiers, and an orphan girl transformed into an immortal, shapeshifting heroine. The Nissera Chronicles start here....
Welcome to Nissera, land of three kingdoms and home to spectacular magic.
Bristal, a 16-year-old kitchen maid, finds herself in a gritty fairy-tale gone wrong when she discovers she has elicromancer magic in her blood. Elicromancers are an ancient breed of immortal people, but only two remain in Nissera after a bloody civil war. Bristal joins their ranks without knowing that one of them has a dark secret....
Tamarice is plotting a quest to overthrow the realm's nobility and take charge herself. Together, Bristal and Brack must guard the three kingdoms of Nissera against Tamarice's black elicromancy. There are princesses to protect, royal alliances to forge, and fierce monsters to battle - all with the hope of preserving peace.

not what I was looking for
I've had enough of these meek protagonists. the plot is overused. I want characters with more substance and a backbone.

Sleeping beauty meets Cinderella meets ... all tied up into one very busy fairy tale
A lot of work and imagination clearly went into this re imagining of Disney princess classic stories woven together but I found myself craving better character development and felt like the story flitted from scene to scene like a blockbuster movie. Like eating an entire package of dorito chips, I couldn't resist listening to the end but finished the book feeling full but dissatisfied.

Kinda slow but interesting
This story is similar to Sleeping Beauty with a sprinkling of Cinderella but with a unique twist.
People have been going to a magical river for hundreds of years only the ones with magical potential survive & emerge with a magical stone. Thousands have gone in and never come back out.
There are only 3 of these magical people in this book, one gets drawn into darker forbidden magic and the other two have to try to stop her as she wants to unleash hell on earth.
The story was simple, and the world they live in is very interesting. But the book does seem to be written for a young audience which usually isn’t my thing the book was okay but nothing spectacular.

I enjoyed the story overall and it is well narrated. Great for constant action beginning to end - keeps you coming back.
