Publisher's Summary

The land of Terre d'Ange is a place of unsurpassed beauty and grace. The inhabiting race rose from the seed of angels and men, and they live by one simple rule: Love as thou wilt. Phèdre nó Delaunay was sold into indentured servitude as a child. Her bond was purchased by a nobleman, the first to recognize that she is one pricked by Kushiel's Dart, chosen to forever experience pain and pleasure as one. He trained Phèdre in the courtly arts and the talents of the bedchamber---and, above all, the ability to observe, remember, and analyze.

When she stumbled upon a plot that threatened the very foundations of her homeland, she gave up almost everything she held dear to save it. She survived, and lived to have others tell her story, and if they embellished the tale with fabric of mythical splendor, they weren't far off the mark. The hands of the gods weigh heavily upon Phèdre's brow, and they are not finished with her. While the young queen who sits upon the throne is well loved by the people, there are those who believe another should wear the crown...and those who escaped the wrath of the mighty are not yet done with their schemes for power and revenge.

What the critics say

"There is seemingly something for everyone here: a great love story, intense spirituality, high eroticism, and lots of adventure, intrigue, and swordplay." ( Booklist Starred Review)
"Reminiscent of the best efforts of Tanith Lee and Anne Rice.... Highly recommended." ( Library Journal)

Incredible Follow-up

You couldn't think it would get more complicated for Phedre but somehow this isn't even the end. She finds what she's looking for but that is just the beginning with no win in sight. There's a reason there's three books. If you want adventure and intrigue with a layered submissive hero and some artfully written romance with a brain this is it.

Love these books

These stories are so easy to fall into. I love the powerful female characters, and the narration is excellent as well. Good escapist novels

when you like adventure more than the main character.

I like the intrigue, phaedra boys, rousse and much of the story. what I disliked...is there nothing else that makes her a more interesting complex villain?
the way phaedra goes on an on about her, in such a overly romantic way got annoying fast and skipped it.

Pretty good

These books are kinda slow but if you stick with it they have an interesting enough story.

Parts of their history sounds a lot like the story of Jesus being hung on the cross & then this entire book there is a religious group that sounds a like like Judaism being split within themselves like Zionism which has split Jews of faith into believing that violence & the murder of others is just in the sake of there hold land. When true Jews believe you should not hurt others in order to find the holy land. It made me sad listening to Jocelyn get so fully involved into the extremist and was going to lead them into a war against unknown people whose only fault is that they live in that land 😭

I hated how mean they were to each other for most of this book but it ends well.

Our lead character has been through so much it truly gets tiring how much can 1 person go through?
