Publisher's Summary

The end is coming.

Logen Ninefingers might only have one more fight in him, but it’s going to be a big one. Battle rages across the North, the King of the Northmen still stands firm and there’s only one man who can top him. His oldest friend and his oldest enemy. It’s time for the Bloody-Nine to come home.

With too many masters and too little time, Superior Glokta is fighting a different kind of war - a secret struggle in which no-one is safe and no-one can be trusted. His days with a sword are far behind him. It’s a good thing blackmail, threats, and torture still work well enough.

Jezal dan Luthar has decided that winning glory is too painful, and turned his back on soldiering for a life with the woman he loves. But love can be painful too, and glory has a nasty habit of creeping up on someone.

While the King of the Union lies on his death bed, the peasants revolt and the nobles scramble to steal his crown. No-one believes that the shadow of war is falling across the very heart of the Union. The First of the Magi has a plan to save the world. But there are risks. There is no risk more terrible, after all, than to break the First Law.

An incredible listen. Wonderful world building. Terrific characters. Say one thing about this trilogy: it's worth your time.

Very disappointing ending

Great narrator, story was fantastic but the ending was just awful. Every single character has a depressing or unsatisfying outcome.

Don’t hesitate to get into this series

I won’t spoil it, but do yourself a favor and if you haven’t gotten into this series yet, go back to book one. It’s a bit slow to start with, but it’s SO SO WORTH IT for books 2 and 3. Read them in order.

One of the greatest stories told

The narrator is just as skilled as the author.
Each book gets better than the last.
Thoroughly disappointed that this story doesn’t continue.
Definitely going to read all of Joe’s other books now.
Excited to see what is Colin next.

good

great narration but the story doesn't conclude anything and it gets darker then I'd like to see. Good but it hurts itself no heroes and no victories.

Awesome series

These books are great, the characters are fantastic and the narration is some of the best I've ever experienced. I didn't want to stop listening so I crushed through this book like Logan nine fingers! The only thing between me and the book was the dead!

An excellent installment.

Another fantastic volume in a powerful series. Say one thing for Joe Abercrombie, say that he knows how to punish his characters. Lord Grimdark is true to his title, and will not leave you with flowery satisfaction when all is said and done.

Steven Pacey was outstanding as expected. His assured performance is as guaranteed as the light leaving the sky, only to return the next day.

Good Story

Good story and strong character development. Would be good to see women playing less medieval stereotypes (whores, vixens, ice queens and damsels in need of saving)

Best performance

Amazing story brought to life by a top notch performance. All 3 books are worth a read. I bought extra credits because I didn’t want to wait for my monthly credit to come.
