Publisher's Summary

It's two decades since Chris Stewart moved to his farm on the wrong side of a river in southern Spain and his daughter Chlöe is preparing to leave for university. We find Chris, a local literary celebrity, using his fame to help his old sheep-shearing partner find work on a raucous road trip; cooking a TV lunch for visiting British chef, Rick Stein; and, most movingly, visiting famine-stricken Niger for Oxfam.

What the critics say

"When an author is as modest and humorous as this, his story cannot be told too often." ( The Times)

As good as Richard R. Grant had told us it was

I trust Richard R. Grant. He did a wonderful documentary on books that you take to read when traveling. I watched and loved all his places and recommendations. I wrote this title down and luckily found it on Audible, read by the author. At first I thought, oh this is a “guys” book, but the more I dove in, the more I realized that this was the book I’d been waiting for. Something which was outside the regimental lines of categories like : adventure, travel, comedy, romance, fiction, etc. This book was more like being with a friend for a while and spending quality time together. Having been to Spain many times, I could follow along happily even smelling the Spanish ground and feeling the Mediterranean sun on my head while listening. I loved it more and more as it was just so honest and human- no pretentiousness, and being with the kind of people I enjoy. Even the hardest parts, the toughest circumstances were experienced with humor and grace. So, so glad I got this book, now will read the previous others from the series. Highly recommend.
