About this listen

The last word on the JFK assassination by the New York Times best-selling author and JFK historian!

Mark Lane tried the only US court case in which the jurors concluded that the CIA plotted the murder of President Kennedy, but there was always a missing piece: How did the CIA control cops and Secret Service agents on the ground in Dealey Plaza? How did federal authorities prevent the House Select Committee on Assassinations from discovering the truth about the complicity of the CIA?

Now, Mark Lane tells all in this explosive new book, with exclusive new interviews, sworn testimony, and meticulous new research (including interviews with Oliver Stone, Dallas Police deputy sheriffs, Robert K. Tanenbaum, and Abraham Bolden). Lane finds out first hand exactly what went on the day JFK was assassinated. He includes sworn statements given to the Warren Commission by a police officer who confronted a man who he thought was the assassin. The officer testified that he drew his gun and pointed it at the suspect, who showed Secret Service ID. Yet, the Secret Service later reported that there were no Secret Service agents on foot in Dealey Plaza.

The Last Word proves that the CIA, operating through a secret small group, prepared all credentials for Secret Service agents in Dallas for the two days that Kennedy was going to be there - conclusive evidence of the CIA's involvement in the assassination.

thought provoking

I have so many more questions about the assassination of JFK & the CIA. This book really takes the shine off "The Greatest Country in the World "
so as long as you don't get caught, then it never happened?

Provocative but Disappointingly Sensationalist

I personally think the Warren Commission got it right, but the kind of thought-experiment displayed in Mark Lane's books is always good to contemplate.. exposing yourself to controversial ideas is invaluable in developing Critical Appraisal Skills.
Unfortunately, 'Last Word' is far from an objective discussion of the theories Mark Lane has proposed. It's disappointingly mostly a self-congratulatory crusade. Lane adds a few "new" testimonials and eyewitness accounts to strengthen his assertion that figures in the American IC assassinated John Fitzgerald Kennedy, but most of this book is a response to the accusations that he is profiteering off of his conjecture and a condemnation of the Central Intelligence Agency as an entity.

I was hoping for more of a discussion of Lane's proof that the lone-gunman narrative is wrong and that his own theory is the correct one. Instead, I got part butthurt diatribe, part anti-CIA rant (the Good Stuff must be in previous books).

Fortunately, the production values for this recording render it tolerable. Mark Boyett reads this audiobook professionally. His diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are spot-on for the subject matter. He admittedly reads at a somewhat plodding rate (this book is best consumed at a playback speed of 1.20X), but Boyett was a good choice to deliver this Audible Studios Inc. recording.

You have to have Big Brass Ones to title your opinion-piece "Last Word".. there are literally dozens of theories surrounding conspiracies to kill JFK (The Mob; Cubans; Russians; various Government cabals), for example. All of them have evidence for why they are the "true" story. Lane's conjecture, in my opinion, is simply one of them (Last Word, indeed). His documentation of assassinations, blackmail, criminal activity, and unethical experiments at the CIA is furthermore clearly designed to generate outrage.
Regardless, the book is an acceptable distraction for a couple of snowy afternoons - worth 4.5 stars out of 10. It was offered for free as part of my subscription, and that's appropriate.. it's a diverting listen
..but not worth a Credit.

[The discussion of the MK-ULTRA Program is interesting, but I wasn't terribly impressed with Lane's reasoning and writing style. Lane's earlier books are much more focussed on his JFK allegations and less on an anti-CIA tirade (and hence easier to consume). Pass on this one.]
