Louis L'Amour
About this listen
“For sheer adventure L’Amour is in top form.” (Kirkus Reviews)
Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L’Amour’s hallmark. It is the compelling story of US Air Force major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness.
Only one route lies open to Mack: the path of his ancestors, overland to the Bering Strait and across the sea to America. But in pursuit is a legendary tracker, the Yakut native Alekhin, who knows every square foot of the icy frontier - and who knows that to trap his quarry he must think like a Sioux.

Love this book; narration not so much
A long time fan of Louis Lamour, this is one of his best. I had a tough time with narration and the staggered, stunted story telling.

Louis L’Amour at his finest
This is one of Louis L’Amour’s best books. His understanding of the hierarchy and workings of the soviet order, coupled with his deep understanding of the wilderness and the life and ways of native peoples make this book very rich. There isn’t a boring page in the entire book. The narrator did a masterful job. I would listen to him again for sure. I highly recommend this recording.

My favorite Louis L’Amour book
I love this book, so different but still so much adventure from Louis L’Amour. The narrator has an interesting voice and once we get used to it it is quite enjoyable. Beautiful diction. I am happy I found an audio version of it. I have read the book many times but now will listen to it over and over again. Thank you, M. Strathairn.

Oldie but a Goodie
I always ask everyone, 'what's your favorite book?'.
I have a long commute and need good reads to keep me going.
My boss said he had read this book several times over the years.
I loved it!
