About this listen

What would happen if millions of people around the world suddenly disappeared one day? In this fascinating apocalyptic thriller, best-selling Christian inspirational authors LaHaye and Jenkins pool their considerable talents to answer that question. Narrator Richard Ferrone's unusually deep and hypnotic voice will keep you right in the middle of this not-unimaginable end of the world nightmare.

Pilot Rayford Steele is contemplating adultery with a young flight attendant when over 100 of his passengers simply vanish, leaving vacated clothes and bewildered companions. Rayford and the others left behind must deal with mass chaos on top of personal loss. Among the passengers still left is star reporter Cameron "Buck" Williams, who just got the assignment of a lifetime: find out what happened and why. Theories abound, from Christian Rapture to alien abduction. Buck suspects secret meetings between international power brokers are somehow connected. And rising political icon Nicolae Carpathia seems to be at the center of it all.

Good Intro to Christian Lit

Read the books years ago but having the audio gives me a refresher and is easy to follow.

Good story.

The narrator ruined this otherwise interesting tale. Sounded like a cartoon criminal or something. Although it did drag on had to finish just to see if the ending justified the time spent listening. It did. Dont waste a credit.

If You're Wondering What This "Rapture" Thing Is..

You've probably heard about this world-changing event that the Evangelicals keep talking about. Why are they supporting Israel again? No, it's not because they love Jews.. it's because they want to accelerate *this*. Eschatologist Tim LaHaye and professional ghostwriter Jerry B. Jenkins offer a Scripturally accurate fictional portrayal of End-Times hypotheses.. the sudden disappearance of "the worthy", the unpleasant trials of those left behind to face the new norm of death & disaster/looting & lawlessness, and the appearance of the Antichrist. Most Christians that I know are at least passingly familiar with the subject matter - and the authors do a nice job of translating it into an easy-to-consume "Movie-Of-The-Week" format - but I found it awfully amateurish and annoyingly preachy.

As to presentation: Recorded Books Inc. is likewise disappointing. The sound quality is actually quite praiseworthy, but the editors inexplicably insert uncomfortably looooong pauses at the end of chapters and between scene shifts within chapters. The casting of Richard Ferrone to read the book was largely a good one: his crisp diction, outstanding voice-acting, and pitch-perfect tone complement a thoroughly enjoyable baritone timbre that is comfortable for hours of listening.. but it's pretty glaring that Ferrone isn't a believer (reading Paul's first letter to the church in Corinth as "One Corinthians", for example). Overall, the listening product quality is "average".

I rate 'Left Behind' 5.5 stars out of 10. At times the messaging is heavyhanded (the straight-up Evil Greed of Planned Parenthood when suddenly bereft of innocent babies to kill and The Antichrist's "Globalist Agenda" have a whiff of Alex Jonesish rhetoric), but it will resonate with Right-leaning Christians invested in this subject material.
Bottom Line: this book has a distinct "preaching-to-the-choir" feel while being clearly aimed at the pews at the back of the room.

Second reading of the series.

I am not a writer at all. But this series is in depth with Bible prophecy. I adore the series, and my favourite character is Chloe. Any Christian will do love and appreciate this true story about the future. Praise the Lord.

Very religion-heavy

SPOILER ALERT. Stop reading now if you don’t want to know. I kept waiting for the non-religious explanation to the events in question, it didn’t come. I tolerated a LOT of religion talk thinking in the end it would be recétales that it wasn’t as it appeared. But it was exactly as it appeared. Maybe a great book for some people, less satisfying for an atheist. 😂 Mostly I ended it disgusted with myself for seeing it through to the end waiting for the big plot twist that never came.

A sermon

Good beginning but unfortunately evolves into an ongoing and endless push to Christian faith. The longest sales pitch from a person that you can’t get out out of the house!!
