About this listen

Long listed for the 2010 Scotiabank Giller Prize, Lemon is the story of a teenaged girl with the numbers against her: Three mothers, one deadbeat dad, one cancer-riddled protégé, two friends, one tree-hugging stepbrother, and a 60 percent average. The adults in her life are all mired in self-centeredness and the other kids are busy getting high, and she just can't be bothered to fit in.

Stellar story with great depth of meaning

This kid Lemon is worthy of a visit in this book that bears her name. Strube tells a story layered with rich characterization and literary references with a genuinely unforgettable hero. I am sorry to have reached the last chapter. As for the narration, where are the audio directors when Americans continually mispronounce Canadian terms? And who would ever expect a cop from a small town would have a southern drawl? Come to think of it, why would a British boy not have an accent? These performance oddities should have been avoided.
