About this listen

Ranier Maria Rilke challenges you, "...to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answers." Rilke's ability to combine the sensual and the spiritual into an inspired vision of the art of living is brought to vivid life in his letters. Through his eyes, the everyday difficulties of love, sex, solitude, sadness, and doubt are seen as the archetypal elements of the drama called life.Recording (P)1990 by Audio Literature; Copyright ©1984 by Stephen Mitchell Classics Memoirs, Diaries & Correspondence Poetry World Literature

A tremendous collection of letters

These letters are so dense with powerful and potentially prodromal ideas that you will want to listen to this short book more than once.

The theme of solitude is discussed many times. This may be of help to anyone who has struggled with loneliness. Rilke found the gold in that dragon's cave. Perhaps he can help you find it too.

Thoughts on creativity, love, nature, and gender are also shared. A beautiful spirit, Rilke philosophies with a quill that makes his work simultaneously exquisitely gentle and perfectly precise.

His words made me cry. Truly. I cried in the car. Twice. His letters left me feeling both satiated and happily looking forward to more. What more could I ask for? I will listen to more of his work.

P.S. There is also some excellent advice on how to handle dragon's.
