About this listen
Sometimes the truth is darker than fiction.
Liza Cole has 30 days to write the thriller that could put her back on the best-seller list. In the meantime, she's struggling to start a family with her husband, who is distracted by the disappearance of his best friend, Nick. With stresses weighing her down in both her professional and her personal lives, Liza escapes into writing her latest heroine, Beth.
Beth is a new mother who suspects her husband is cheating on her while she's home alone caring for their newborn. Angry and betrayed, she sets out to catch him in the act and to make him pay for shattering the illusion of their perfect life. But before she realizes it, she's tossing the body of her husband's mistress into the East River.
Then the lines between fiction and reality begin to blur. Nick's body is dragged from the same river, and Liza's husband is arrested for his murder. Before her deadline is up, Liza will have to face up to the truths about the people around her, including herself. If she doesn't, the end of her heroine's story could be the end of her own.

One of my Fav narrators
Love this narrator. (Amy McFadden) She makes the stories come to life and is never obnoxious to listen to. She makes any story easy to enjoy.

Yikes! Scary!
I loved this novel written by Cate Holahan, and narrated by Amy McFadden and Lisa Larsen. It was scary to take the rides with well-developed characters. The mental illness is real. I want to say more, but don't want to spoil it. Read it it to find out! I highly recommend this novel and am going on to read her 'One Little Secret'!

A bit confusing
Great narration. Story lines blurred for me now and again. I think it may have been easier to follow in print. Overall I enjoyed it.

So confusing!!
About half way through I figured out the other character was the main characters character in the book she was writing. The ending was uneventful. A little underwhelmed but thankfully it wasn’t a long audio and it was free!

Part 1&2 are amazing then…
Part 3 just is so… underwhelming. Like it goes lame… almost as if the book was long enough and needed to hurry up and finish.
I loved the way it swapped between Liza writing the book and the chapters of Beth’s story. The performers were wonderful

Loved this book. Just the right amount of twists and turns and kept me on my toes until the end.

Fun Suspense-Thriller
Cate Holohan's storytelling approach is original: two storylines - one following a Thriller author's IRL travails dealing with a friend's disappearance and one following her fictional character's murder of a cheating spouse's girlfriend.
The vocabulary/prose is capable, the description is vivid, and the alternating storytelling technique forces admirable pacing.
Less fortunately, the "jilted spouse" psychological explorations are overdone, character behaviors are a little hard to swallow, "suppressed memories" are overused, and Holohan doesn't do a great job plausibly bringing the storylines together.
As to presentation: the tandem readers Amy McFadden and Lisa Larsen do an above-average job relating the tale. Blackstone Audio Inc. did an excellent job casting and mixing/editing the project.
Altogether, 'The Lies She Told' merits 8 stars out of 10. It was an enjoyable distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons as a 'Plus' option.. but not distinctive enough to warrant a Credit.
[Note: Holohan writes realistic, flawed characters - but not a single one is likable. I struggled to care what happened to any of these people]

Amazing
This book was fantastic. Kept me interested until the end. Amazing writer and such an interesting comparison between the two stories.
