About this listen

Miranda's disbelief turns to fear in a split second when a meteor knocks the Moon closer to the Earth. How should her family prepare for the future when worldwide tsunamis wipe out the coasts, earthquakes rock the continents, and volcanic ash blocks out the sun?

As summer turns to Arctic winter, Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother retreat to the unexpected safe haven of their sunroom, where they subsist on stockpiled food and limited water in the warmth of a wood-burning stove.

Told in journal entries, this is the heart-pounding story of Miranda's struggle to hold on to the most important resource of all, hope, in an increasingly desperate and unfamiliar world.

Pretty good listen

I was sceptical when I started this book as YA is usually about teenagers saving the world, but a friend recommended it so I tried it out. The narrator can be a little much, 16 years old must be a hard voice to do, but I got used to it.

The story, the survival of this little family after a catastrophe, is really riveting. It’s so realistic that I was looking through my own pantry and wondering how I would survive if the worst happened. I’m looking forward to the sequel.

Holds up over time

I read this book multiple times as I own it as a paper back that I got in my teens. I have struggled to reread alot of YA novels I got into back then or even the new stuff by authors I loved back then. Something about the formatting and clear writing still holds up and is enjoyable to revisit, even in audio book form as I near 30 years old. And thanks to audible I discovered this is part of a 4 book series and am excited to explore the continuation of a story Ive enjoyed for almost 15 years.

Good concept, bad writing & worse voice narration

Not the worst, but definitely not the best post apocalyptic story, it's obviously meant to be read by kids because the writing style is so painfully basic, and the voice narration is really bad. I finished it mainly because I had read this book in middle school and wanted to see how it held up as an adult, but I must say, it didn't hold up well.
