Publisher's Summary
Charles Finney was one of the most influential and powerful ministers throughout the Second Great Awakening during the 1800s. He is most widely known for his incredible revivals, which contain some of the most amazing God stories in modern church history. The most retold of which is on the day when he visited a cotton factory at New York Mills for a simple tour.
Upon his arrival, one of the cotton workers began to laugh at him and mock him for his faith in Jesus. Charles simply looked at her in silence with those piercing eyes. Suddenly, the cotton worker’s thread broke and she frantically attempted to restring it. But before she could, she was overwhelmed with the conviction of the Holy Spirit and began to openly weep.
The workers next to her were soon moved as well and joined in her tears. The power of the Holy Spirit began to sweep through the entire factory, until hundreds of workers stopped their work and fell to their knees crying out to God.
The owner of the factory was so impacted by this, that he shut the entire factory down so that the revival could take place and God could move freely. Within three days, 3,000 of the factory workers had given their lives to Jesus.
This book is a compilation of some of Charles Finney’s greatest teachings on the Holy Spirit and how to have a deep relationship with him. Finney believed that the truth of walking in the power of the Holy Spirit and revival was not an unfathomable mystery. He believed that it was not only understandable, it was explainable, practical, and attainable by anyone who truly wanted it. Some of these are transcripts of sermons he preached, while others are articles he wrote.
May you be encouraged in your walk with Jesus, and be drawn into ever-increasing intimacy with the Holy Spirit.
