About this listen
Is it possible to listen without judgment? Is it possible to be a human in a relationship that does not include dominance or submission? Listen Like a Horse is a narrative story about the time and interactions shared by Kerri and Cooper, a gifted gelding whose playful communications had been misunderstood and handled with dominance. Infused with perspectives and tools of communication between horses and people, the story invokes and reveals awareness and insight for relationships not just with animals, but with other people and within ourselves. There are so many paths to enlightenment that have been taught throughout the eons of human existence. But with every path, with every teaching, there is a time when we are invited to step beyond our teachings, to step beyond the comfort of the systems that supported us, and enter a whole new conversation.

Story
There are silent, yet powerful, ingredients missing from current horse training, riding, and natural horsemanship instruction. In her research of horsemen and women who have a gift with horses, Dr. Susan Fay outlines the invisible things these equestrians do that make their interactions with horses seem effortless. As a research scientist and life-long equestrian, Dr. Fay spent more than two decades searching for scientific explanations for why some people are able to develop seemingly spiritual relationships with horses.

Story
This is what happens when a writer, preacher, and lover of words encounters some of creation’s wisest theologians: horses. First, she argues with them. They are, after all, horses. What could they possibly know about life and God that theologians haven’t already written? But slowly, she engages their language and listens to their holy wisdom, attending to how they express their being, actions, and relationships. She allows horses to draw her out of the faith of intellect and into a deeper faith of emotion, body, and soul.

Story
In this illuminating book, brain scientist and horsewoman Janet Jones describes human and equine brains working together. Using plain language, she explores the differences and similarities between equine and human ways of negotiating the world. Mental abilities—like seeing, learning, fearing, trusting, and focusing—are discussed from both human and horse perspectives. Throughout, true stories of horses and handlers attempting to understand each other—sometimes successfully, sometimes not—help to illustrate the principles.

Gorgeous. Calm waters in the tumultuous equestrian world
I’ve listened to this book three times. It’s so comforting to me when I am struggling with my horses, when I’m feeling lost in my horsemanship, or when I’m doubting what I’m feeling or picking up on when I’m with my horses. This book feels close to my heart.

Felt like an advertisement
while this is a beautiful message, the entire thing was way too long without any real advice on how to achieve the author's message. it felt like at the end I was going to be sold on a program of how to achieve what the author was describing, which at the end I was, when I was directed to the website. I would come completely understand if this book was free, but it was a paid purchase. it was very, very long and wordy but the same thing was being repeated over and over again without any clear direction. like I said it was a beautiful message, but I felt it probably could have been done in one or two chapters.
