Kyroo is a vast world which many species call home. A mysterious curse rapidly sprawls forth every night as the twin moons vanish behind a curtain of eternal darkness. I didn't like the women in the story. They were generally condescending or snarky to men and to the main character, they kept making the main character look like a fool and bossed him around, even his lovers were like that. I could never feel any love from a woman towards a man. Love was written on the pages but no action ever showed it. They often laughing at the main character, not with him. The hero being nice and a little slow with women didn't do anything to get respect and instead tolerated casual disrespect. They kept doing what they wanted, even during battle when following orders is paramount. It seemed to me all women were bisexual or lesbians. And yes, there are sex scenes, but with fade to black. We know it's happening or it's happened but there are not description of the good part. That was a downer for me. Women were so unpleasant it made listening to the fun story a pain. Unfortunately, the hero's companions are everywhere in every scene so the annoyance is always present.
The narrators aren't very good. The male voice is acceptable but I've heard much better. The female voice though, was pretty bad. There was almost no difference between the different characters, she had no emotions and her reading rythme was surprisingly bad. Here and there, she would pause in the middle of a word as if it was the end of the sentence! On top of that, there were moments where we could hear the male voice doing female voices followed by the same part done by the female voice.
At the beginning, the story was great and I enjoyed it. When women started becoming more and more important, they started to annoy me. So much so that I changed my listening pattern from leisure time listening to work time listening. I kept listening because the story of the main character is good and I wanted to know how it would end. To me, it would have been a much more enjoyable listen if the women were nicer, stayed in the back ground or were absent from the story. It is possible that the poor female voice amplified the impact the poorly written women had on my annoyance.
You may like the story, if you are not bothered by the female characters and voice. In my case, I listened to it because it was free and I wanted to know the fate of the hero, but I will never listened to this book ever again.
