Publisher's Summary

Having survived his first year at Faebrook, all Rowan wants is to continue adventuring, learn more magic, and perhaps enjoy a nice apple pie every now and then.

Instead, he is swept into the political turmoil that seems to follow Morgana everywhere she goes. With assassins lurking in the shadows, dungeon dives growing ever more dangerous, and rumors of dark deeds going unpunished in the Fae homeland, it will take all of Rowan's ability just to survive.

Fortunately, he has his party at his side. Unfortunately, that means they're now in Tianna's crosshairs, and with the Fae heiress bent on Morgana's destruction, she will stop at nothing to see them fall.

This was an insanely good follow up

This series is proving to be one of my absolute favorites. I listened to the first one again before listening to this. So damn good. I am absolutely devastated that I’ll have to wait for the next book now haha. Please don’t take too long!! Of course it also goes without saying that Pavi is a god of the spoken word as always. SPOILER ALERT PAST THIS: I am loving the adventuring semester, I do miss the schooling and classroom learning aspect too though and I hope Rowan and co are able to return when all is said and done and finish their time at Faebrook!

Damn

I wish I could skip through time to when the next book is out.

Just as solid as the first book with all the same good points as well, but the stregnth in this one is definitely the group dynamic in Rowans party. The banter was great, the concerns were genuine, each character felt like their own person and not just the generic "Guy best friend B" or "potential love interest C". The world building as well took a huge step forward. There is definite progression of a over arching "plot" now and not just "go to school dont get bullied and get stronger", but the book also keeps the pacing as slow as the first one to flush out its characters, which I really enjoy.

Pavi as usual was perfect.

An exciting sequel worth the credit

The author succeeded in making a sequel that I think prevailed over the original in all ways that matter. The story was sharper, more directed. Our plucky hero has some real interpersonal drama. And when things go wrong, they go wrong spectacularly! Big fan of the direction and I'm on tenterhooks for book 3!
The narrator was also very good, with a variety of voices and accents that help shape the story.
I had some minor pacing issues that are more likely about my preference than the author's ability, but other than that, a very solid fantasy romp.
