Chapter 1
Luminous ripples of sunlight caressed my face, sedating me. I glided upon a silken sea of unconsciousness. A shadowy awareness intruded, threatening my delicious slumber. I forced it away, refusing to rouse. I compelled my mind back toward the veil of darkness mingled with yellow shafts of light. “Your hair is pretty,” a man’s voice whispered. My eyes opened, blinded by the sun’s radiance. I struggled to focus on the sketch of a shirtless man squatting at my right. “I always had a thing for curls,” he said. I became aware of two, brawny silhouettes hovering above me. I was on my feet instantly, murmuring the obvious, “I fell asleep.”
