About this listen
Orson Scott Card, best-selling author of Ender’s Game, teams up with Kathryn H. Kidd to launch an epic science fiction saga of space exploration - and a dramatic conflict between human and nonhuman intelligence.
On the Ark, a colonyship bound outward across the stars, not everyone is a volunteer - or even human. Lovelock is a capuchin monkey engineered from conception to be the perfect servant: intelligent, agile, and devoted to his owner. He is a "witness", privileged to spend his days and nights recording the life of one of Earth’s most brilliant scientists via digital devices implanted behind his eyes.
But Lovelock is something special among witnesses. He’s a little smarter than most humans: smart enough to break through some of his conditioning, smart enough to feel the bonds of slavery - and want freedom.
Set against the awesome scope of interstellar space, and like Speaker for the Dead and Xenocidebefore it, Lovelock probes the provocative interface between humanity and another sentient species.

this is a drama, not so much a sci-fi.
would not recommend for someone looking for a sci Fi read. it's basically a family drama on a ship.

Orson Scott Card Fan
This is just my taste but, being an Orson Scott Card fan I was so disappointed with this book. One thing I am not a fan of is love angst kind of stuff. I am used to such a high quality of Science Fiction from Orson Scott Card that was what I was expecting. Maybe a few years from now as my own personality continues to change a bit and knowing what it actually is, a reread/listen might produce a different effect for me. However not being a fan, it was even worse in AI form. It had it all from the romance genre - AI monkey falls in love with owner, owner thwarts that love and monkey is jealous, monkey goes through all the angst and ends up with severe anger and acts out. Sigh. Not for me I'm afraid and that was so pervasive to me that I may have missed other intended parts of the story. I was just glad when it was done. I can recommend this book for people who enjoy romance and teenage angst.
