About this listen

Katherine Switzer ran the Boston Marathon in 1967, where she was attacked by one of the event's directors who wanted to eject her from the all-male race. She fought off the director and finished the race. From the childhood events that inspired her to winning the New York City Marathon in 1974, this book details the struggles and achievements of a pioneering woman in sports.

What the critics say

"A thoughtfully written memoir...[Switzer is] still running strong; she's headed back to Boston this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her 1967 pioneering run, making this a perfect time to brush up on running history." (Mother Runner)

"Kathrine Switzer is the Susan B. Anthony of women's marathoning." (Joan Benoit Samuelson, first Olympic Gold Medalist in the women's marathon)

Fantastic!

Incredibly inspiring and enjoyable. It inspired me to run, and made me feel so grateful for all the freedom women in the Western world have today. Kathy's narration really brought out the story, too. Thank you, Kathy, for all you've done for women!
