Publisher's Summary

Matt and Liz may have retired from the police, but that doesn't mean a quiet life.

An old friend's sister disappears without a trace. There's no sign of foul play, but she'd been acting very peculiarly....

Meanwhile, Liz's cousin, Christie, comes to stay. She takes an immediate - and uncharacteristic - dislike to the local bookshop owner, Gina. Why does everyone put up with her awful behavior?

Hunting will-o'-the-wisps on the marshes can be a very dangerous hobby.

Christie is convinced that Gina is manipulating everyone around her. Is she onto something dangerous or just pushing her new friends away?

No one believes her suspicions until another friend goes missing late at night on the misty Fen marshes.

Can Matt and Liz uncover the truth in time to save lives?

not a mystery

Their is no discernible crime or investigation six hours in ...just a dull and prim Peyton place narrative that doesn't involve the main characters. I think this is the end for me and Ellis Gave up on her other series. Not interested in how well Bunny cleans Nikki's makeup drawer for her. Terrible.

Original and entertaining

Enjoyed listening to this mystery. Yes, some of the characters were gullible but I don’t think unrealistically so. The plot moves along quickly though with with pauses to enjoy the Fens scenery and atmosphere. Some excellent descriptions of watercolour landscapes as well. And a bonus in the form of several short stories in the appendix.
The narration was excellent. The Fen form of English was a treat.

Enjoyed the story very much!

I do enjoy this series, but it takes me some time to get used of the narrator. At times I had difficulty deciphering which character it was that was talking.
As I got further into the book, he became more clear to me. No sure if he changed his style or I got used to it.
Always a treat listening to books of Joy Ellis!

Always a good listen

I’m glad the authour is so prolific, as I look forward to hearing any book of hers. There were a couple of spots in this novel that didn’t unite ring true — surely the protagonist couldn’t have been THAT dense—but in general those moments did not damage the over all enjoyment.

Sucker for punishment

Corny - yes. Cheesy - yes. But for some reason I can’t quit Joy Ellis novels, eye rolls and all.
