A Nice Refresher
These are Line-by-Line recreations of the MCU films - admittedly frustrating if you're looking for in-depth interpretations that reveal new insights into beloved characters - but absolutely what I was expecting. It is appropriate that no authors are listed for these 'novelizations' - they more or less directly transcribe the screenplays from the movies. As a fan of the films, I am just fine with that.
Tom Taylorson, Jim Meskimen, and Ray Chase read professionally and clearly. None are spectacular, none do female voices justice, and none read at the optimal rate (I sped the recordings to 1.10X to good effect). But all three largely eschew bad actor impersonations and all three recordings avoid overproduction. These are quality audiobooks.
These books are ideal for picturing what was presented on-screen in 2008 ('Hulk') and 2011 ('Captain America' and 'Thor'). The descriptions are clear enough that it's a simple matter to visualize what the Directors for the individual films wanted to present. Provided you don't expect earth-shattering reinterpretations of these beloved characters and just want to relive some fun.. these rate 9 stars out of 10. They are the perfect listen for a kid in love with The Avengers or a comicbook-geek working a boring night-shift.
