About this listen
A Sunday Times best seller
The amazing second Dirk Pitt classic from multi-million-copy king of the adventure novel, Clive Cussler.
Major Dirk Pitt picked up the frantic distress call as he cruised his lumbering amphibious plane over the islands of the Aegean. Brady Air Force base was under fire, its entire force of jets destroyed on the ground...by just one First World War biplane!
A psychotic ex-Nazi, a bloodthirsty Greek strongman and a beautiful double agent set Pitt on the trail of the warped mastermind behind a devastating sabotage plot. And on that trail, danger and death are never far behind....

A Dirk Pitt classic
I originally read this under the title Mediterranean Caper. It's an old book, and in some ways hasn't aged as well some other older Clive Cussler titles, but it's still a fun read.
Back in the day, I actually read this before Pacific Vortex, even though both were published by the time I was reading them (historically, Pacific Vortex was written before Mediterranean Caper, but published much later). Now, listening back in chronological order, the references to Cussler's first (and originally unpublished) novel are kind of cool.
If you are a Dirk Pitt fan, this is a must read, and Scott Brick does a wonderful job of bringing it to life, complete with some great German accents.

Sub-par
Bad story line. Not the same Dirk Pitt in later novels. The characters in this novel are not cohesive with each other.

Can do without the sexist innuendo
The story is as outlandish as most of Cussler’s books, most of which I have read. Scott Brick’s reading is good, as always.
The story however, takes the cake in terms of misogynistic and sexist undertones. I was rather annoyed and found myself rolling my eyes on numerous occasions. Discerning listener beware. Maybe it’s just a reflection of the times in which this book was written. So glad we’re putting that BS behind us.
The later books are much better and not so cringe-inducing.
