About this listen

Oxford—celebrated city of dreaming spires and class warfare—is an ambition come true for geeky upper-middle-class lesbian Charlotte and charismatic working-class straight Millie.

Against the odds, theirs is an instant best friendship. Forever.

Exuberant Millie is a breath of fresh air for polite Charlotte and a force of nature within the university's hallowed walls. And they are going to be the best lawyers of their year and change the world.

But their world changes instead when things go queerly sideways, and they haven't seen each other since.

Ten years on and Charlotte returns to where it all began. She has a new job at a prestigious law firm and Oxford is as beautiful as ever. She's a safe distance from her overbearing barrister mother Nicola and three office floors from her snappy college mentor, Olivia.

Then Millie bounds around the corner wanting to be friends again and it's as if the last decade never happened. Will it be different the second time around? Can they be friends again? Or will love and attraction change things?

Nay:
Meeting Millie has completely stolen my heart, hands down my favourite audiobook to date. Gabrielle Baker’s narration was nothing short of extraordinary, breathing life into every line with such warmth and nuance that I cannot imagine experiencing this story any other way. The writing itself is elegant, witty, and utterly engaging, with dialogue so sharp and effortless it had me laughing out loud and hanging on every word.
Ashton crafts not just a romance but a rich, beautiful backstory that unfolds with care, building well-established, complex characters you cannot help but fall for. Millie and Charlotte’s chemistry sparkles, their journey from friends to lovers painted with such tenderness and authenticity. And the angst is written so well it moves you, wrapping your heart in equal parts joy and ache. I wanted to simultaneously hug them and shout at them to just kiss already.
This is a slow burn in the truest sense, but every moment is worth the wait. It is a lovely, heartfelt tale full of warmth, humor, and just enough anxiety to keep you totally invested.
An absolute must-listen, and listen (okay so this is my most listened to Audiobook).

For me, it was an effortless journey to travel along with the duo. The narrator, with her slight lisp and perfect comedic timing made this for me. It is quirky and natural and I didn’t want to stop listening. I’m notorious for zoning out when someone reads to me, but not this time. Listen to it, and read it.

Utterly Enchanted

We spend a long time with the characters (like over a decade) and they seem very sisterly. The story doesn’t really go anywhere. Once sex and romance happens it is in the final 5% of the book and you can’t imagine the characters having sex by this time. I like the narrator though.

Pretty long and boring
