Publisher's Summary

BE WHO YOU ARE.

When people look at Melissa, they think they see a boy named George. But she knows she's not a boy. She knows she's a girl. Melissa thinks she’ll have to keep this a secret forever. Then her teacher announces that their class play is going to be Charlotte's Web. Melissa really, really, REALLY wants to play Charlotte. But the teacher says she can't even try out for the part... because she's a boy.

With the help of her best friend, Kelly, Melissa comes up with a plan. Not just so she can be Charlotte—but so everyone can know who she is, once and for all.

brilliant! just read for everyone

Though it's an easy read, and one could say a children's book, it should be read by everyone. a beautiful story of a young girl coming to terms with her identity. topical, wholesome, and beautiful! I bet it'd be great for teachers too!

Touching and heartfelt

Wow what a fantastic book. I think it should be read at schools. All kids should be able to express themselves as they see themselves and adults should support them in anyway they can. Bravo to a fabulous story. The voices were each perfect ! You could really visualize it all. Thanks

Short but entertaining and touching

Great story written from the perspective of a 10 yo transgendered youth. It is a bit simplistic but I recognize it was written to be approachable by young readers.
I appreciated that it realistically approached the fact that although allies exist, not everyone will be understanding and supportive. I know that many will not agree with me but I feel like this should be required reading in schools.
