About this listen
"Like Interview with the Vampire, Memnoch has a half-maddened, fever-pitch intensity. . . . Narrated by Rice's most cherished character, the vampire Lestat, Memnoch tells a tale as old as Scripture's legends and as modern as today's religious strife."(Rolling Stone)
"Sensual...bold, fast-paced." (USA Today)
"Rice has penned an ambitious close to this long-running series. . . . Fans will no doubt devour this."(The Washington Post Book World )
"[Memnoch] is one of Rice's most intriguing and sympathetic characters to date. . . . Rice ups the ante, taking Lestat where few writers have ventured: into heaven and hell itself. She carries it off in top form."(The Seattle Times)

Story
We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. . . He speaks quietly, plainly, even gently . . . carrying us back to the night when he departed human existence as heir--young, romantic, cultivated--to a great Louisiana plantation, and was inducted by the radiant and sinister Lestat into the other, the "endless," life....

Story
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Story
In 1976, a uniquely seductive world of vampires was unveiled in the now-classic Interview with the Vampire ... in 1985, a wild and voluptuos voice spoke to us, telling the story of The Vampire Lestat. Anne Rice continues her extraordinary Vampire Chronicles in a feat of mesmeric storytelling, a chillingly hypnotic entertainment in which the oldest and most powerful forces of the night are unleashed on an unsuspecting world.

Best so Far!
Ouf - i LOVED this one! This series had been a bit of a guilty pleasure but this is a truly wonderful piece of writing with serious literary and philosophical merit. Anne Rice grapples with the great and age-old spiritual and existential questions and proposes a wonderful new approach to Christian theology that leaves the reader asking more questions by the end but the mystery feels necessary... Simon Vance gives another masterful performance and breathes even more life into these wonderful characters... I can’t praise this book and performance enough. Wonderful and truly thought-provoking.

Might think about getting a new Narrator.
Is this the same narrator as the rest?
This time it just wasn't working for me.
I always thought that he should sound just a tiny bit younger... Anyways he just wasn't getting any of the other characters right..
ps. It was beautiful but why ARMOND why...???

Best of a very good series
#Audible1
I love the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles. There are a couple of books that are less good, but most are incredibly entertaining and captivating. But Memnoch the Devil stands out among them all. Very exhilarating and almost addictive. I couldn't stop listening. I found myself transported along with Lastat to a world so perfectly described that I could picture it as if being there. The detail and the drama kept me looking for more.
When I finished, I found it so bitter sweet. I wanted to know how it ended, but I didn't want it to stop. It was very sad, because up until Memnoch the devil, each and every book was progressively better than the last. So I was really looking foreword to what came after. But then came "The Vimpire Armand, which in my opinion is the worst book of the series. But fear not, it gets better as the series continues. Merrick was also a great read.
Thank you Anne Rice, I love your work.

Least favourite of the series
This is my second time 'reading' this one, and although the reader made it somewhat better, I still had a hard time listening to it through. I feel like it shouldn't have been part of the series, but oh well, I remember the next books being better again. Excited to be moving on to the next ones!
