As the snow begins to fall over Manhattan, Angelina, the now ex-pop sensation (now known as Sarah Rose), begins to embark on her long journey - destination unknown - to find a way to somehow bury her checkered past and abusive ex-husband, as well as her family ties to organized crime to begin to rebuild a new life for herself and her five-year-old daughter Isabel (Izzy).

Oblivious to the knowledge, the path that she follows leads her to the small, quaint town of St. Bernard Parish, a tight knit community on the outskirts of New Orleans. In only a few short months, she finds waiting for her there, Miguel Rivera Jr., a southern Creole gentleman, with his own demons to slay.

Born with an extremely rare and serious birth defect - a heart condition unlike any other - Miguel's life had always been a constant struggle. Yet he has always kept a smile on his face, and a positive outlook on life. After finally having his heart repaired by his brilliant father Dr. Cesar Rivera at the tender age of nine, this now 18-year-old never gave much thought to love and romance. Now, from one careless night of meaningless pleasure, with someone he foolishly called a friend, he finds himself in a situation made of nobility, rather than love.
