About this listen
The relationship between Freddie Mercury and Jim Hutton evolved over several months in 1984 and 1985. Even when they first slept together, Hutton had no idea who Mercury was, and, when the star told him his name, it meant nothing to him. Hutton worked as a barber at the Savoy Hotel and retained his job and his lodgings in Sutton, Surrey, for two years after moving in with Mercury, and then worked as his gardener. He was never fully assimilated into Mercury's jet-setting lifestyle, nor did he want to be, but, from 1985 until Mercury's death in 1991, he was closer to him than anyone and knew all Mercury's closest friends: the other members of Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, and Phil Collins, to name a few.
Ever present at the countless Sunday lunch gatherings and opulent parties, Hutton has a wealth of anecdotes as well as a deep understanding of Mercury's life. He also nursed Mercury through his terminal illness, often held him throughout the night in his final weeks, and was with him as he died. No one can tell the story of the last few years of Mercury's private life‚ the ecstasies and the agonies‚ more accurately or honestly than Jim Hutton.

Endearing and heart wrenching
Beautifully written accounts of the never ending love between Jim and Freddie, so descriptive of each of their characters that you feel you know them both by the end of the book. This is definitely a must read, as it tells the true story of Freddie’s closest friends who weren’t famous, the ones behind the scenes who were there for him and took care of him until his last breath. You’ll grow to understand the unjust and unfair treatment of the LGBTQ+ community and how Jim had to pretend he was only a friend in public view. How Jim and other friends of Freddie who took care of him in his last days were shut out from their home that was shared with Freddie and left out of memorials. Truly sad but heart warming story of true love.

A beautiful behind-the-scenes love story
A thoughtful, beautifully told story of the private life shared between Freddie Mercury and his husband, Jim Hutton. The story is told very respectfully and full of lovely details of their cats, up to the heartbreaking final days of Freddie's life. A must-listen for any Queen fan. The narrator is spot on with his voices and does a wonderful job. Highly, highly recommended; I will definitely re-listen to this many times.

The side of Freddie Mercury, seen threw Jim Hutton
This is a great book, it delves into aspects of Freddie Mercury's life that I did not know existed. For example, Mary, his old lover and long time friend, wasn't who she really appeared to be. You see how Freddie meets Jim Hutton and How Freddy slowly declines and the last weeks of his life, while Jim was their daily, contrary to all the documentaries where it shoes Mary Austin ty his side till death. its a sad ending, but good book.
