About this listen

Magic is her birthright....

The daughter of one of the strongest magical lineages, Ninian Malcom Siddons is a powerful witch. Determined to use her magic only for good, she lives a simple, solitary life as a healer in her village, where she meets Drogo.

A man of science doesn't believe in anything he can't see....

Lord Drogo Ives believes only logic and science can explain the wonders of the universe and doesn't believe the local folklore about Malcolm witches and Ives men - until he meets Ninian. Despite the odds against them and their (many) differences, the bond between Drogo and Ninian grows stronger each moment they are together...until the chaos and danger surrounding them forces each to decide: their love...or their lives....

Merely Magic

This was a good story and read well. It would have been nice have a little more history of the era along with the story. The romance was fun but predictable and the characters needed a bit more depth to become more invested in their stories. All in all it was nice listen but not sure I will continue with the series.

Great story, well told.

Great book. The author does a good job of character/story building, narration is excellent.

male narrator

I usually prefer listening to a skilled woman's voice. It was hard to get into at first, putting it down often. However, this narrator was easy enough to listen to and became mostly enjoyable. Though, at times, I wasn't sure if it was him or her speaking, having to wait until it revealed itself. I enjoyed the book overall and, in the end, it became hard to put down.

Started out ok, descended into repetitive nonsense

First, a nod to using a male narrator: Brave choice. His narrative was good. The story started out interestingly enough, but rapidly sank into utter repetitive nonsense. The male protagonist is tiresome. Perhaps to compensate, without an ounce of wit or charm and the female protagonist lost any interest by the fifth or sixth chapter. The author does make sure we know he has curly eyebrows at once every chapter (who knew that was a thing?), Of course a romance novel is escapism, but the silliness was almost giggle-inducing if it weren't otherwise so boring. The intimacy scene of their first encore disregards any reality that I suspect 99.99% of women would actually be feeling. A small attempt at historical accuracy would also have been welcome. Anyway, I was sick, the narrator's voice was soothing, so I kept listening in the hopes of discovering what drove others to give this such high ratings. Never did and by the end I could not care less about even one of these cartoon-like characters.

No connection, no draw, just blah

The storyline had potential. I would have liked more of a hype about Malcom and Ives and why there was such a "dispute"

The storyline was lacklustre, the couple was less than believable.

It didn't work for me.
